Cal Raleigh 60th HR ball

Gentleman catches ball and gives ball to a young boy. Admirable gesture. Ball now valued at 100k-200k.
Got to thinking if the boy sells it for a high amount if will share anything with the guy who gave him the ball. Wonder how the guy would feel if he is left out of a potential windfall. Be interesting going forward.

Very interesting scenario indeed. Guess he didn't realize the historic importance of that particular home run?

60 HR a record for a catcher as well.

Classy. The boy traded the ball for a signed bat and visit with Raleigh.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

That’s a HR ball I would have kept myself. I think there is a societal construct which is being oddly applied to home run balls which is evidenced by these most recent two newsworthy home run ball instances. And then to trade it for a bat so that a guy with a $100MM contract can have a keepsake. Can it be both classy and moronic at the same time is what I wonder. Please keep your significant home run balls. If it comes to you and you catch it you get it. Kids grow up to become adults. If you catch a meaningless one look around for a kid or a Phillies fan.

Someone named Alberto caught Trout’s 400th homer, barehanded they say, and exchanged it for some auto’d bats and a game of catch with the superstar. That was nice. These negotiable home run balls are causing adult speculators to place a value on everything. Meanwhile, their kids are watching this stuff play out and planning hostile takeovers of the family fortune.

Agreed, if that's true that Raleigh gave the kid a visit and a signed ball then he is a cheap bastard, he knew the value of that ball and couldn't throw the kid at least 50k and tell him it's to help. with college or something.

If I caught a historic ball I'm selling it at an auction house and telling the player to stuff his bat up his rear end

Any other ball I'm definately giving to a kid in the stands

    The whole situation is ridiculous

Would be a nice gesture, even if on the QT, to set up a college trust fund for the lad.
