I had bid on

one of these and forgot about it and was out bid.
It went for $70. Then I saw this and won it for $90., the $70 note was raw.

Don't feel too bad. This has happened to me a lot & usually the winner is $10 more (or less) than my bid. (The worst is eBay where it can be $1.00 more!) At least you absolutely KNOW your winning bids are a great deal (fantastic hammer price)! Why? b/c they're marginally around market value. You get a few of those good deals (below market value) too, right? I mean at least I do (& I have many, I mean too many of the "near-misses" where I'm beat out by just a little). But I consider it "all comes out in the wash," & I have had many wins too (much lower than expected). I also get beaten out by a LOT (b/c I've underestimated how much demand for a certain note/variety). Those actually concern me a little more (b/c they're typically wanted by more collectors).
