Well after looking for this coin (date) for over 5 years I finally found one and it arrived today

Now I know why Yonaka says the 1732 and 1771 Mexico 1 reales are by far the rarest of the entire 1732-1771 milled 1 real series. Looked daily and got lucky a few weeks back. So happy to add this coin to my set. There is no damage either to the NGC hologram it is just the image (weird that is displays like this on the image but I am happy to say it is not damaged at all). One of the few coins I will not break out and will leave in the NGC holder. Only 4 ever graded by NGC 2 are details (VF & AU) and 2 are numerical. Maybe one day I will land a better example but for now I am so very happy just to own an example for my set.

Congrats, always a great feeling to have one's diligent hunting payoff and motivation to others to remain relentless in the hunt-
Nice! Well done.
I should add I looked every single day multiple times per day (auction houses, eBay and so on) during those 5+ years so you can imagine my relief once it arrived to me today.
It is by no means a high value coin (couple hundred dollars at most in this grade) it is very rare.
And during this time I saw two examples of the milled 1732 1 real come up for sale. Just to give an idea of just how rare these 2 dates are (the 1732 been more obvious since it is more famous).
Your persistence has paid off. You're happy -- that's all that counts.

Seriously cool! I've been looking for one of these too. Well done!
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
Thanks guys I appreciate the comments!!!
I don't look for Mexico regularly but the supply and quality for Bolivia and Peru have gone up quite a bit (relatively) as the prices have increased. That's the norm with any coin or series, I presume, to the extent it exists.
I've never seen mintage data for Mexico and to my knowledge, it doesn't exist by denomination. It's not in Yonaka or Gilboy. World Numismatics, aka, Mexican Coin Company, had an article on their website years ago but I don't know or remember their source.
Unless the mintage is lower than expected, I'd still be very surprised if the 1771 is actually close to being as scarce as the 1732. Your experience is almost certainly due to the relative market value, and so is the frequency of sale in public auctions.
Nice find though, and the detail is a lot better than VG. it's definitely been "net graded".
I spoke to Brad Yonaka he said the 1771 comes up for sale from time to time but it is by far the rarest of the series with the 1732. Yonaka in his 1st edition considered the 1771 the rarest of the series then in the 2nd edition the 1732 became the rarest and the 1771 the 2nd rarest of the series. I would assume the 1732 is rarer but the 1771 is for sure a very very tough coin as well. Then comes the 1754 in 3rd position (not even close to either of the 2 I just mentioned in terms of rarity).
SimonW has been looking just as long as I have if not longer and had never seen one come up for sale either (till I got my 1771 that is).
If anyone here has a way of finding out just how many 1771's have sold over the years I would love to see the data. My guess is very few. Last Heritage I see one 1771 sold back in 2006.
I am not putting the 1771 in the same category (pedestal) as the 1732 in the sens of it been equal in terms historical importance but rarity wise as Yonaka stated they are for sure the top 2 rarest coins from that series 1732-1771.
I think you meant VF not VG.
Let me be clear the 1771 does no equal the 1732 in importance nor does it equal the 1732 in value. But they are both very tough dates there is no doubt about that. The 2 rarest by far in this series. I would agree with WCC that the 1732 is likely rarer. But there is a huge difference (gap) in the rarity of the 1771 and the 3rd rarest of the series the 1754.
Since it is the last date of the series maybe they produced a lot less of this date and denomination. Juts a guess. I know there a lot of every other denomination I have seen for sale 1/2 real up to 8 reales (minus the 1 real) of the 1771 date. Yonaka does not consider any other 1771 denomination rare as he does the 1 real (that is reflected in what I have seen over the years).
Congrats, I'm happy you found one.
For sure Guatemala is a much rarer country to collect I have zero doubts about that statement. Same for many of the Peru dates in the 1/2 to 4 reales series (Guatemala is tougher than Peru as you know). But Mexico does have its rarer dates as well (no question it is a lot fewer than Peru or Guatemala).
Will there be other sales of the 1771 Mexico 1 Real down the road of course. But as mentioned it took me over 5 years of daily searching so you can imagine my relief as a collector having landed one for my set.
Congrats! I’m sure it’s a great feeling. Hope you enjoy it!
