SOLD For $2,668 including bp at GC - 1950 Franklin PR67 PCGS w/CAC

SOLD for $2,668 including bp at GC.
This is the key date with Franklin Proofs. Blast white, mirrors as watery as they can be! NO CAM suffix, but frost is on the devices (but don't expect an upgrade).
Of the 852 of these graded PR67 by PCGS and NGC, only 15.4% merit a CAC sticker (131)!

Cool
Actually, I was somewhat disappointed, as there was only one bidder. The coin is gorgeous with super watery mirrors. I bought it in November 2020 from Great Collections, and paid $3,056. Price Guide values are the same now as they were then.

Sorry to hear, Steve. My GC auction results last night were less than inspiring as well.

Do you think your results would have been better without a reserve?
No way to sell for sure, but I don’t think so. On “low” priced coins, I start with no reserve on GC. On higher priced coins with high popularity, it’s also probably “safe” to start with no reserve, such as nice Capped Bust Half Dollars. However, Proof Franklins do not have widespread collector interest.
In June 2020 I listed for auction on GC a nice 1900 $1 Lafayette Classic Silver Commem, graded MS64 by PCGS with a CAC sticker, with no reserve. GC auction data shows over the years GC has auctioned 12 in this grade by PCGS with CAC stickers. Mine went for a hammer price of only $1,506. I saw this coin on a dealers website two weeks later, listed for $2,400, and it sold within three days!
Of the other 11 in this PCGS grade w/CAC auctioned on GC, not only did all end up with higher hammer prices, but the closest of those 11 to mine had a hammer price of $1,750. Yes, plain bad luck was part of the problem back then.
With all auctions, consignors hope for two (or more) collectors that really want the coin. That did not happen here, as only one collector bid.
