Cheerios

I currently have a Cheerios dollar and penny being graded. It’s in the encapsulation phase. I sent it in the original (never opened) sealed package. My wife found it several weeks ago in the back of a drawer whiled we were remodeling our kitchen. Probably there for 25 years. What should I be looking for when I get them back?

They will be removed from the sealed packs and each encapsulated.
Look at the grade, the higher the grade, the more valuable the coin.

Of course, not all dollar coins that came out of the cereal boxes are the valuable variety, but most were so hopefully/presumably you're OK.

  • Received grade values from PCGS: 2000-P SAC$1 Cheerios Prototype Reverse MS68 and penny is MS66 RD. Not to shabby. Now what? Keep it for Grandkids? Sell with auction house? Sell on eBay? Lots to consider.

Nice grades. If you don't need the money,, then I would keep them.

What you do with them now is up to you but with a grade of MS68, it could be worth close to $10,000.

Beautiful coin! If you decide to sell let me know. I’m in the market for a PCGS MS68

Interesting that there is no gold shield. I'm guessing the declared value was under $2500 when submitted.

  • It was my first coin ever submitted for grading. Never dealt with PCGS before. Was somewhat overwhelmed with submission process. How much did I hurt value with no gold shield? Also wish I would have asked for double slab with cheerio penny I submitted at the same time.

  • I don't think it hurts the value. It was just odd to me as I don't recall seeing a recently graded 5 figure coin that doesn't have the gold shield and true views pics. If you wanted the gold shield or true view pics you could always send it back in for a reholder, but I'd leave it as is.

The double slabs are cool, but in this case you would have the MS68 dollar paired with the lesser MS66 RD cent. Because of that I think you did good getting them slabbed separately.

  • Thx.
Just got this from HA. :#:(

I wonder if it might be because a number of them are headed for auction at another auction house.

Maybe they were worried about oversaturating the market? If that is the case it would have been nice if they explained that.

Your coin is certainly a great piece in any case.

  • @MFeld works at Heritage and may be able to offer more information on why it does not meet the current consignment criteria.

If I were them I would take it on consignment, that is a five figure coin.
