Copyright Question…

I have a question with respect to copyright year for Leaf baseball cards in the 1940s. I noticed 1948-49 Leaf Jackie Robinson cards have a copyright of 1949 whereas 1948-49 Leaf Stan Musial cards have a copyright of 1948. Does this mean that the 1940s Leaf baseball cards were produced from late 1948 to early 1949….essentially straddling those two (2) years?
Therefore…it confirms that there are two (2) Jackie Tobinson RCs (1948 -49 Leaf and 1949 Bowman)…and two (2) Stan Musial RCs (1948 Bowman and 1948-49 Leaf).

I know only what others have stated regarding that series. With regard to copyright generically the copyright date doesn’t imply anything regarding production or release.
It’s probably most likely, and supports what I understand that the series was released in 1949 as the copyright on the cards consists or 1948 and 1949. This indicates that the series was likely produced over 1948-1949 and released in 1949.
Here’s the SABR article on it if anyone’s interested. There’s also a link to court records.

Thanks for the article….
Leaf is a 1949 set. It was mis-catalogued as 1948 in the standard catalog and since that is the original source of everything baseball cards many still call it 1948. All the vintage guys I talk to call it the1949 Leaf set.
