man, way too young...one of the best 2nd basemen ever...used to watch so many of the games on WGN back in the day

I cut this out of Sports Illustrated when I was in High School.
Thank you. As a life-long Cubs fan, one of the best parts about winning the World Series in 2016 was watching the older players like Sandberg that loved the team and the fans get to celebrate with us. It was a win for everybody that was with us through all of those heartbreaking moments through the years. Watching Bill Murray interview Ryno as they celebrated with the team in the locker room after that Game 7 victory was a lot of fun.
Of course, the saddest part was that Ernie Banks had missed being there by less than two years, but after a long night of partying and celebrating, I made sure to stop by his grave and share the good news with him:
When I used to travel to Indianapolis for work, I used to stop at a card shop there (Indy Baseball Card Exchange). The owner was really nice and told me that Ryne lived a few blocks from the shop.
Ernie would no doubt say, let's win two championships (but not at Wrigley; if you seen how poor Shea Stadium's grounds and elsewhere were half ruining when the 1969 Mets made their magical run...all three championships were won at home I hope the groundskeeper crew got a really big bonus!
Incidentally, me and my wife got married on the same year Ryno got into the HOF (2005)

I have no words. Sandberg is so much a part of my childhood growing up a rabid Cubs fan. Had my first autograph from him in 1984 at the age of 12. In 1985 at 13 I got a job washing dishes at the local VFW hall and my very first purchase was an authentic Sandberg jerseyin 1985 (still have the tag it cost me $96 or about 29 hours of work). He signed that jersey at a playoff game in 2013. I remember where I was for the Sandberg game, I remember where I was when he retired the first time. I was at the home run derby he won at Wrigley. I was at Ryne Sandberg day when he retired for good. I will be there Friday for whatever pregame they do. Went by his statue Tuesday morning. Will miss cheering for him in the future as he was always good for a Wrigley appearance or two each year.
