Japan 1 Yen 1894? w/ chop marks

I know certain members can help me authenticate this coin. Diam. 38mm, 26.8g, 2.7mm thick, non-magnetic. I don't have any Asian reference works. I tried to date it but we'll see. And, Is there a chop mark image ID website that can decipher them. I gave it an acetone bath, which dissolved surface crud. Thanks for your insight, in advance. Peace Roy

I can help with the dating, but not the authentication. To my eyes, it does not appear authentic, but it could just be circulation damage. The size and weight appear good though.

The date is Meiji 37, or 1904. A common date with a mintage of just under 7 million.
(Upon second look, could the first character in the year be a "2" instead of a "3"? Hard to tell with the chop mark there.)

Here is how to date the coin. The characters are read right to left. The characters circled in red say "Meiji," the emperors name. And those in green say "37," the year of his reign. The uncircled character is the character meaning "year".

Thanks so much for this. A close examination of the "3" is not showing the middle bar, so that symbol just might be a "2", as you mentioned. The physical data seems right. Both fields are clear given the chop disturbances. Roy

I look at it more careful it might be Meiji 27. It is hard to really tell because the chop mark is right there. I am not sure what is this, why that is there. It doesn’t look like a chop.
