Subgrades..

Big fan of the subgrades, so that you can know why you are getting 7 instead of a 9. Beckett really lost a huge audience when they changed the rules on providing them. A 10 centering bgs 9 would sell for much more than the other 9's. all 9 subgrades will sell for more than 3 9's and an 8.5.

I can't take credit for this, but about a year before Beckett starting posting all the subgrades on the pop report, I reached out to a rep and told him this would be a good idea. My example was, what about cards that are 9.5 but have 2 10's and 2 9.5's. It would be nice to know if 1 of them existed or 200 of them existed.

Since most people at this point use the computer or their phones to access everything, wouldn't it be nice if the grading companies could list the subs with the verification feature. Type in the serial number and the subs appear with the card. SInce apparently putting them on the sticker takes too long.

I would like it. Just a thought.

I agree. I would love to be able to access the sub breakdown online.

side note, i LOVE having subgrades on slabs. I sure wish PSA did that.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Good idea. Too much work for the company. I don't think it would matter all that much since the whole process is subjective and different set of eyes may disagree with assigned assessment. I could definitely see it as another dollar grab...
    "Oh, oh, I have 9.5 centering & 9,5 corners--- it's worth more".

Instead of one opinion to argue about, there would be four. Given the nature of our hobby and and the people who control it, that would be too much splaining to do.

    Farewell Ozzy.

I also like the subs on the Beckett slabs and used to find it fun thinking it was close to the next higher grade and let me see if I can get a sub bump. But that was more fun in the days when the hobby was smaller and you could walk up to their booth at a show and drop something off for a Raw Card Review or sub bump and then four hours later you go back and get the results.

I had a lot of pleasant experiences going down that path with some nice bumps and great Raw Card Review results. Last couple or few times though no bumps so dont think I will play the sub bump game anymore. Miss quick Raw Card Review results too. That was a blast. Walking around a show with mega-anticipation and then being jacked when you saw what was in the box.

The Centering number is a big number. Getting a 10 centering on a 1984 Steve Young was huge for me. I feel like I can get a little extra for that one.

Definitely. Centering is "the thing" now. I was just watching a couple '52 Topps Mays being sold a week apart, same grade PSA5, different centering. 4SC & Greg Morris were sellers. $8590 & $9955. Better centering got higher sale.
