Pokemon Thread (Acquisitions and Contemplations)
Know it wont be everybody's jam but thought I'd set this up in case anybody wants to contribute purchases or thoughts.
Bought these boxes yesterday and just opened. Think the results were solid, maybe more solid if the centering was better on some of these but in terms of pulls I felt fortunate.
No grand slams but some decent stuff.

@UlyssesExtravaganza I apologize, but I am unfamiliar with the newer pokemon items…would you mind describing what you got?
Some of it looks cool!

Sure thing. I was unfamiliar with the new stuff too as I had been mostly out of it since 2021. Some of the posts here got me thinking more about it, as well as the increase in value and the attention Pokemon is getting at shows. So have started educating myself on the newer stuff.
The larger box was Destined Rivals. That was a 36 pack Booster Box. Like the idea of this because I worked on completing a Team Rocket set from the early 2000s and enjoyed that and you have similar characters and themes. So where you see Team Rocket's ...., it was that set/box.
For the other two boxes, they were the Booster Bundles. Only 6 packs each. Which I dont think was an option back in 2021 but I like the idea of the mini box. One was a Prismatic box and did not do too well there but felt it was worth a try. There can be some big hits there and the color is cool. The Flareon ex is that which I think looks nice but not a valuable card.
The Scarlet & Violet 151 box ended up being pretty fruitful. The Wartortle came out of there. If it was centered it is a pretty nice pull. But still like my version that probably has a 9 ceiling. The Giovanni's Charisma was in that box as well.
Chose these sets because of the potential for the huge hit and then the next best options could be pretty nice also. There a ton of sets but not all have a have a single huge win or a great group of 3 to 5 best cards. Loved Evolving Skies in 2021 and busted a lot of those boxes with all the great potential but they now go for about $2000 so the box opening days are over unless I stumble into obscene money.
@UlyssesExtravaganza
That helps a ton!!! I can see each of the items you described, and enjoyed that you took the time to further explain it … thanks for that.
My current association with TCG’s is pretty much restricted to seeing security blocking off the aisle at Wal-Mart waiting for shelf stocker to finish stocking and remove the do not cross ropes while the daily sharks are circling waiting to strike anything that tries to get in their path…I jump in the fray… watch my wife panic like I’m going off the deep end… but only try to look at the new stuff so that if I hear about it, I can recall seeing it and regret never buying it!!!! ( Those days of actually buying have come and gone!!! )
I’ve always been a non-sport guy, so I am happy with the explosion of non-sports that has rocked the sports collector’s worlds… if only to say I saw the whole thing coming… even going back to when PSA refused to do non sports grading at all… there is clearly room for both and I’m glad to have seen it!
Thanks for sharing… and happy collecting!

Does one have to have a Doctorate degree from one of the proper non-liberal colleges to have any idea what is going on on the front of pokemon cards, or do you just have to be a child with the ability to learn the game in like 5 minutes ?
They make no sense to me.
