1636-LH. Hesse-Cassel. Wilhelm V "Willow Tree" Taler. Cassel mint, KM162.1, Dav-6755. Variety with 5 buildings (2 to left, 3 to right) and star//star. Displaying a willow tree bending under duress from the storm of war, aided by protection from God above (Jehovah spelled-out in Hebrew letters). During the Thirty Years War, Wilhelm V allied with King Gustavus II Adolphus of Sweden (both Protestant great-grandsons of Philip of Hesse) and subsequently faced repeated attacks by Imperial Catholic troops. In 1636 Wilhelm liberated an ancestral home, the fortress of Hanau, though died in exile one year later, after which his widow continued to mint Willow Tree Talers. NGC AU-58.

    Cool coin

God comes first in everything I do. I’m dedicated to serving Him with my whole life. Coin collecting is just a hobby—but even in that, I seek to honor Him. ✝️

  • Hi Zohar! I recently got some European crowns and wanted to ask if there is a particular grading service you may think is better? They are more in the AU to possible MS range and are some 17th and 18th century Crowns. I was thinking maybe NGC, as I see so many crowns from your end in nice NGC holders!

I use NGC predominantly due to service but when buying coins look at them first and foremost rarely play the crossover game. So overall NGC and PCGS with a higher mix of NGC in the set.
