Recent pick-up from Great Collections

Over the years I've had a number of 1799 Mexico 8 Reales pass through the collection. None were really too impressive or interesting. For those familiar with the series, for some odd reason there are dates that are very tough to find in nice, un-messed-with MS (or high AU) condition and 1797-98-99 are among those. So, while this coin may not have all the characteristics to make it an impressive example, there's a neat variety with the first letter of the assayer initials having been re-punched that makes this coin interesting

Another 1799 that checked the interesting checkbox and stayed in the collection. PCGS consistently refuses to put it into an overdate holder, but it's most definitely a 9/8

Looks like an overdate
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Thanks. It does. The issue is that it's not documented in Yonaka (even though Brad agrees) or Krause so PCGS says it's not a recognized variety. Btw, unlike NGC who is more than happy to attribute a new major variety discovery.

They are the same on Canadian varieties. If it is not in Charlton, they generally will not attribute it.

Thanks Phil! Love that GreatPhoto!
8 Reales Madness Collection
Yes, PCGS is picky that way. Makes it hard for rare, uncatalogued, patterns too.
