All things Mercury Dime:
Hello everyone!
Been awhile since I’ve posted, but still an avid collector of the Mercury Dime. Anyone else out there collecting the mighty dime? What are your collecting goals? What coins have been the most challenging for you?
Personally, I’m going for a set in FB between MS 63 and MS 65, except the 45P, and 16D.
Happy collecting!

Hey there! Haven't seen you around before, but I'm also a mercury dime collector.
Currently trying to do a date and mint set for an album. Missing the key dates and a couple of the s mints from the twenties.
While I put together a set of FB’s, I chose to just do a DATE set. By having fewer coins, AND can then pick and choose which lower cost common mint to choose for each year, I was able to afford higher grades.
There’s no right or wrong way to collect, but that’s my rationale for my set.

I'm (trying) to put together a MS-64FB CAC set. Slow going.......................
Seems a lot of people don't want to spend the money sending them to CAC for some of the low priced common coins
The search continues...............

I'm trying to build a toned short set in 66FB-67. For the late dates, at least, I would advise that MS66 coins are worth the extra couple bucks.

All great stories! I hope we get more! This can be fun.
Question for the set collectors. If you were at 100%, which I’m not at this time, and everything in your set was MS 63-65 FB, but your 21-D was an XF 40, but it was the FIRST coin of your collection 28 years ago, would you upgrade it?
I’m torn on what to do? The nostalgia of my 21-D is huge!
My 16-D isn’t in that caliber either, and I don’t have a 45 FB. So, I guess I’m sitting at 3 lower graded coins.
Update the 21-D BUT keep it

I’m not a fan of feeling obligated to have EVERY coin in a set fall within a same narrow grade range, particularly a key (tough/expensive date/mintmark). My suggestion for that 1921-D is to have one in a grade that you feel you can comfortably afford for that slot, regardless of what that grade is! Just make sure it is eye appealing to YOU for that grade!
