Topps should get signature samples before signing players to autographed card deals

I can't see how anyone would want a 'signed' card like this. It sold for $260 on eBay yesterday. A PSA 10 one (different pose, also #'d to 99) sold for $560!

Up until age 90 my Mom could write circles around this chicken scratch purported to be autographs.

Topps should get only players who can sign in proper cursive and not hieroglyphics.

Does the dude put in the same amount of minimal effort on the field as well? Based on the handwriting sample he's a loafer that slow jogs to first on a ground ball

  • That is what happens when they pay them for 5000 autographs. They just short cut it to get it done. It used to be the autograph card was rare. Now it seems like they are every few boxes. I hate it for the value of the cards. I got an autograph of a 13 year old in one box. I guess I can wait 7 years to see if it has any future value.

Initials are NOT autographs to me.

I wonder what percentage of these pack pulled autos are in fact legit? Topps/Fanatics is not sending representatives to personally witness these "signings."

I think the Artist Formerly Known as Prince signed that one.

I agree Craig, and I imagine that it is hard for PSA to properly authenticate these autographs. Almost anyone can replicate that "J" that Jackson Merrill signed.

Players sign with minimal ink because they don't want to disrupt the image of themselves with all of their additional gear - batting gloves, elbow guards, oven mitts and chunky gold chains.
