Simon,
Actually the reverse looks quite OK, but there is something by the side of the shield.
Not sure if corrosion, or attached dirt deposits though.
To be honest, since I don't encapsulate my coins, (also because getting that done in EU is not that easy), and as long as I am happy, that is all that matters to me.

I’m blown away, really. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the auction pics, congrats on a great purchase! I’ll just wait around for the next one…he has
Someone commented in one of the Peruvian coin groups in FB that he has seen or heard of 5 examples of the 1766 Lima Real, two of which are holed. I asked him to provide pics, none so far.
Besides @wcc 's coin, I have never seen another. But if up to 5 (or more) do exist, then it should be possible to pick one up at some stage, @SimonW . I certainly hope you or @Early_Milled_Latin_America do find one.

SimonW owns one (holed). There are at least 5 known. My guess is about 30-50 (or more) still exist. It is very rare and one of the rarest of the series (including 1752-1768-1772). So far the date I have seen the least of at almost 2 years of searching is 1768 I have seen only 1 the coin I own.
Brad Yonaka will update the specimens he has seen in his next edition. I spoke to him and he had seen four 1766's 1 reales but I showed him some images and he has now seen 5 total. You have to remember Brad Yonaka cannot see all of them he simply states what he he has been able to view.
Even if 30-50 (or more) still exist that is still very rare compared to many US coins.
If you want to be closer to the Yonaka's estimates then I would advise to stick with Colombia & Chile early milled since these are much easier to follow and keep much closer estimates of how many truly still exists. Guatemala should be much easier to get closer to proper estimates long term since so few were produced compared to Bolivia, Peru or Mexico.
I too am aware of five examples. One of which I haven’t seen a pic of (reported to be holed like mine), the others I have. Three of those reside with forum members, myself and yourself included. Another distinct example is pictured in Yonaka’s book, I don’t know who owns that one. Yours has the most detail of any I’ve seen, which is in high Fine-low VF range. The highest graded problem free one I’ve seen is a Fine. The one in Yonaka is closer to a VG, but looks to be problem free.
There are certainly more out there. A problem free XF or above would garner some serious attention.
Mintage for 1766 Peru 1 real is over 160 000. There are more than 5 that exist. Same goes for all the Peru 1 real dates (over 50 000 were minted of each date) minus maybe the unique 1751.
1752 states 424 were minted that could be the case and could also be wrong no one knows for sure. But my guess is no more than 5000 to 10 000 were minted.
1766 even at 0,25% survival rate that would be 400+ still in existence.
As mentioned take Yonaka's survival rates with a grain of salt.
Are 1766 Peru 1 reales hard to find? Yes they are. I have seen 2 in 2 years (yours and SimonW's).
Eddi I would suggest you buy Yonaka's book if you do not own a copy. That way you can see mintages and have an idea based on those of many possibly still exist. I was like you Eddi at first every number Yoanaka stated I took as ''gospel'' (survival rates) but over time came to understand he has seen very few coins of what should still exist (for many coins not all). As mentioned a lot easier to know how many early milled still exist of Guatemala, Chile and Colombia. Since they minted so few (1 reales Guatemala from 1700 up to max 19 000 minted per year).
The rarest Peru 1 real over 2 years of searching as mentioned is the 1768 with 1 example. The most common date I saw over that time period is the 1755 with 10 examples.
Guatamela the most common 1 real I saw is the 1759 with 5 examples. Many I have not even seen yet (8 dates from 1754-1771) and many I have see very few of. Peru I have seen every date minus the 1751 and the 1760 Carolus variety.

8 Reales Madness Collection
Holy crap! That looks WAY better than the auction pics. Do you think it’ll certify?
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
That patch of corrosion on the shield side kept me as the underbidder. How’s it look in hand?

Here’s a pic of my current example.
