1983 Topps Baseball Cellos--Double-sided?

I recently acquired a collection with a lot of 1980s unopened material. Some of the packs are 1983 Topps cellos with cards face-side-up on the front and the back (below); I looked at some PSA graded examples and didn't see any that also had cards face-side-up on both sides.

Are these miswraps or possibly resealed?

Back in the day those were called "Mis Wraps".

I would lean on them being re-sealed because:

    1. Seems highly unlikely the packaing process would allow this
    2. The odds of it happening with big stars like that even more unlikely
    3. Further the odds that one collector has them as a grouping
    4. Other cello packs on eBay don't have that muck crimping/crinkling on the back.

Perhaps you open them and get lucky. Maybe they did this a long time ago before the three big rookies developed their respective HOF careers. Murphy was a mega-star for a while but dropped off quickly. I would bet if they were re-sealed someone did this in the 1980s.

    Enjoy your collection!

I have seen this before where the back player is face up. I have seen it from sealed cello cases back in 1983 so it is possible they are ok. I have even seen packs with the heavy crinkling on the back. However, these seem off to me. As stated earlier, there seems to be too many with major stars and some of the folds do not look right. So I am in agreement that these are resealed.

This is not uncommon for most years and in fact for some years (like 1973, for example), the card facing out on back was the standard way packs were produced by Topps. When cards faced out on back from this era were encountered, you'd typically find that pattern throughout the entire case/box so if these are all from the same source, it actually bodes well for their authenticity that the pattern is consistent throughout the lot.

Loosely wrapped cellos from this era (1980 and later, though 1980-1982 featured both variations) were often pretty sloppy, too. I wouldn't assume they are resealed simply based on those pics. That said, I'd be leery of any pack with major stars on front and/or back unless the source was trustworthy. If you open one you should be able to tell based on the collation of cards within the pack~one half should be from ABC sheets and the other half from DEF sheets separated by the gum.

    Thanks all for the input!

@grote15 one of the packs had a flap that was loose so I opened it and the collation was as you said it should be--ABC on one half and DEF on the other. Multiple stars including a Gwynn rookie inside--so I guess these are legit!

Very nice! Yes, they looked (and obviously are) legit packs!
