Chiefs’ Travis Kelce apologizes for his comments about playing in Brazil

Tight end Travis Kelce had some strong opinions last week about the Chiefs facing the Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. The travel and opponent weren’t the issue for the 2025 season opener. It was the thought of having to play in heat.

Steve, could you imagine that guy having to work a real job like a fire fighter or electric lineman in a climate like I work in south Florida?

If you haven't done work in a Foundry you really shouldn't complain about working under hot conditions.

at the time '96 I was working for Solid Platforms out at BP Amoco in Whiting...2 minutes away from Lake Michigan...

This was in December and we were working inside the Power House...

As soon as we walked into the Power House our Lead Man said to us: Everyone take off all of your clothes except for your socks, underwear, and t shirt; then put your FRC's (Fire Retardant Clothing) back on and tool back up...

As we proceeded up to the 2nd level the heat in there was around 110, as we were on the 3rd level the heat level was around 118-120...

We worked 15 to 20 minutes and we would go back to the ground level and the next crew would go up to the 3rd level for 15-20, and then back downstairs...

and we went up again and back down...

And people wonder why I Like The Snow Season...

Back in the 90's and early 2000's before the Jail I worked at had regulated air systems installed I worked the Segregation unit, windows were bolted shut and it was extremely hot in the Summer, the back wall of the unit had single cells for the real troublemakers and they used to wipe feces all over the walls to. make it miserable for everyone.

8 hours in a stifling hot prison unit with guys wiping feces all over the walls is a sweaty stench that I can still smell to this day.

So please Travis, you don't know how good you got it big guy

Hey Groce, I hear you when it comes to wearing that FR clothing. When I work high voltage meter enclosure jobs. particularly 277/480 voltage, the required FR suit goes on since it is worked live. We call them bomb suit jobs. I will pm you some pics of what I am required to wear. They get a bit toasty on a sizzling August day down here!

    @LandrysFedora

Those FRC pants still do a pretty good job doing crazy yard work...

Tree removal & cutting down anything out of control...

One good thing about FRC's and a hard hat...You looked old enough to buy alcohol being under age...yep even burned a cork to make it look like I had Mill Dust on my face...

Try having 15+ airplanes on your RADAR scope in crappy weather for a couple of hours. Even when the weather was good, each day was always a challenge. The job of ATC was often describe as hours of boredom, penetrated by brief moments of sheer terror. Some didn't pay attention and many butchered the English language, communication got sketchy with older radios. They would key in and block each other especially at times like this. Some going 70 MPH, some going 250 MPH+, throw in a helicopter or two and you'll have a really fun experience! I didn't have the fancy RADAR of today, no little line extending from the target indicating the airline or plane, speed and altitude, we just had little slashes, we wrote on little pieces of paper called flight strips.

The problems you hear about today were exactly what we squawked about in the 70s to very early 80s. Poor equipment, antiquated procedures and no help in sight. This, coupled with pathetic management led to the strike in 1981.

Credit to Shaun Duffy, he's got a huge mess to fix. His predecessors did NADA.

Wherever life led us, we all earned our bones in one field or another. We all tolerated horrible bosses, maybe poor work conditions and at some point freedom finally comes. For those still in W-2 or 1099 land, hang in there, when your money is right and you can walk out the door...GO!!!

LOL. He should try going an entire summer without air conditioning in your home, nothing but a box fan.
