Looked at these under magnification

I used a lighted loupe and still could not detect a surface wrinkle in either. Seeing of the defects can be spotted here

cut them out and send them to SGC and see what they say. I see nothing wrong, but I can't blow the cards up.

Either u missed something or PSA errored OR simply census median enforcement. Based on it being 2 cards in same sub, the middle option can almost certainly be eliminated.

I was not happy with the subs consistency at all. I did have a few 10s but the difference between 10s 9s and 8s was completely arbitrary. I knew this was going to be the case but I wanted to give it a shot again. Same old story. I could crack out several of the 8s and 9s and get 10s and crack the 10s and get 8s and 9s.

PSA should actually just stick to a standard

Those 1981 Fleer's are very pretty. That is my favorite set (for sentimental reasons). The Craig Nettles error card is my favorite card as well.

They dont have to. They never have. The money keeps coming which allows them to be whatever way they want to be whether we find it inexcusable or not. And with all the TCG modern money coming in where 80% of the cards are pack fresh crisp 9s or 10s and they can flip through each one quickly, it wont stop anytime soon.

I think SGC would have taken market share as it was a better experience on so many levels and people seem to appreciate the flips but the acquisition I think allows PSA to continue with their "you be you" approach. I would have thought Collector's would see SGC seeing doing well as a win win if they had both SGC and PSA, who cares which one gets the money. But think its the usual head-scratching stuff and they are letting the SGC product deteriorate which has the PSA offering not looking as bad.

I think the recent backlog at SGC says a lot about how/where the collectors are sending their cards as a result of business practices. PSA has definitely targeted the modern market (with good reason) to the detriment of the vintage grader/collector. Anecdotally it seems SGC has picked up a lot more business as a result.

Maybe that was PSA's play all along and it seems like a good one.

I'm just trying to get all my vintage graded at SGC as soon as possible before they get infected. My grading days are numbered and coming to an end as a result of all this.

Cut them out and hold up in the sunlight. The only thing that could make these BEAUTIFUL cards grade a "5" would be a surface defect.

What concerns me and what this Youtube video pointed out was the data does not show a dramatic increase in submissions for SGC. I hope that is wrong. Because the alternative and what the Youtube guy's angle was is often the acquirer strips the acquired company of certain pieces it sees as redundancies and breaks it down to be the way they want it. They may not care that they were operating at a high level with turnaround time and customer satisfaction. Clearly Collectors does not value those things. But dollars saved, yeah they probably like that a lot so reduce all these staff in this functional efficient organization.

It makes me think of this job I had where someone who worked for me got caught watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians on her phone while doing her work by my boss's boss. The result was I was told I had to double her workload. If she can watch TV, she cant be too busy. Right? I think Collector's uses this logic. If they can turn orders around in 5 to 10 days they probably dont need that many people. We've been having people wait 40 to 80 days. Works for us it can work for them. Those customers can wait 40 to 80 days too. I'm on day 25 when all my previous orders took like 5 days an hour and 10 minutes max.

I'm concerned Collector's will find other ways than just wait time to trash the product as well. Wait, these customers over here have been receiving undergraded garbage after long waits and big dollars spent. That has worked for us with PSA, lets try it on that other SGC side.

psa changed their grading standards - they admit it - that goes against all things a grading company should stand on. sgc has not as far as i know. they aren't perfect but somewhat consistent. waiting half a year to get your cards back and then not knowing what the current grading standards are, plus the absorbent cost -- just not a great combination.

My SGC order has been in "received" status for 20 business days now. My last PSA order took 21 business days to have my grades ready - though to be fair it sat in PSA purgatory for 15+ days before the clock started.

Almost impossible to determine the problem from a simple scan particularly if its a surface issue. Your Haley is OC top to bottom. The Fleer 10's look pretty damn good!

I gave it a shot anyway. There seems to be a scratch of some sort on the top left of the 86 Fleer. The other Fleer card seems to have some type of discoloration or whitening on the left and right borders near the top. That's all I got.

Scratches usually get 5's from PSA and 7's from SGC (small ones) - in my experience. The 1983 discoloration should not move the card to a 5. an 8 at worse. The lighting makes a big difference too.
