What type of coining press could make such a piece ? Were these actually used, or just a Vanity coin?
Not sure the cataloger got it right. Stating that it was Ex. Hirsch, auction 53,
26.6.1967, lot 210. The rest of the provenance is correct. The Hirish example weighed 349.35 grams and this one weighs 349.49 grams. Both are documented as different coins in Jasek’s book on the coin.
There are different theories on whether it is a coin or a medal, with the predominant thought that it is a coin. There is also debated whether or not it was intended for circulation. Jasek believes that it is a coin meant for circulation that was used in trade. I defer to him on the matter.
