WITHDRAWN

For me, it's always been about quality, not quantity. When I started collecting Exonumia, I set out to have a "Box of 20" of the most iconic tokens and medals struck in the 19th Century. The "best of the best." Well, with the kids nearing college, it's just getting too expensive. I've got to pair down to my core interest, which most of you know is the work of Joseph H Merriam.
I chose the below pieces because they had everything going for them:
1. Iconic design
2. Rarity (Conditional or absolute)
3. Extreme eye appeal
M.L. Marshall Oswego, NY PCGS MS66BN (ex. QDB, very colorful greens and blues under lighting) $800
Time is Money Hussey Special Message PCGS MS66RB (ex. QDB, nicest I have ever seen, almost full red) SOLD
D. Skidmore's Hotel "Good for One (Cigar)" copper NGC MS64RB Probably the finest known, very red and lustrous. From the legendary Steve Tanenbaum collection
This token is almost as popular as the Good for a scent, but alot harder to find. $2000
You may have seen the above in some of my posts. It is among my favorite varieties- Seneca Falls inspired a young Frank Capra to write "It's a Wonderful Life," changing the name to Bedford Falls.1863 John Matthews Soda Apparatus Double Thick Planchet struck in SILVER, NGC MS63DPL unique and possibly a presentation piece for the company. $2500
J.L. Bode struck over 25c PCGS MS64 (ex. T. Harrison Garrett, sold for $4400 in 1981! 17k in 2025 money!) Sold twice in 140 years, here is your opportunity. The trophy piece of my whole collection. SOLD
The Ladies Man, John Hawkins NGC MS65BN (ex.Tanenbaum-plate for US Storecard book) Impossible to find without clipped planchet, rim bumps, and other damage yet here it is. Plate for CWTS article I penned upcoming issue. $1400
(I dont have professional shots of this one, but it is the finest extant.)E. Aschermann & Co NGC MS65RB (ex.Henry South) Beautiful, colorful pinks, reds, blues) This one pops under lighting. No professional pics, but this one is super nice! $1750
Geo Snooks Detroit, MI Bi Metallic Civil War Token. The obverse is Copper and the reverse is brass! The strangest piece in my entire collection. PCGS MS64 ex. Q David Bowers. $2100
Carl Haas 493 Vine St PCGS MS65RB The most perfect example of the rabbit token I was ever able to locate. Red, blues, and violet, fully lustrous and clean fields.) Plate for CWTS journal article I penned titled, "Bunny Money." This is the nicest rabbit I have ever seen...period. SOLD
Naked Amazon Parsons & Barlow Appleton, WI NGC MS66 BN $1750. R9 This business lasted only a few months and is the subject of an article I'm writing for the CWTS journal next issue. What can be cooler than a naked Amazonian woman carrying the US flag?! $1750
GUTTAG BROS. RARE COINS 29.5 gold storecard $3000 (presumed unique, probably ex. Virgil Brand)
This is the only one I have ever seen struck in gold (14k). The design could not be more indicative of our hobby! Broadstruck (Frank Kraus) heavily collected these, but he could never find the gold version. I bought it shortly after his death.
*I also have two varieties in silver, which are rare jn their own right. They're available as well.Incredible J.A. Bolen rarity- Double Elephant Colonial copy "Only ten Struck" JAB-34 PCGS MS64BN $2000
Well, there you have it. My "best of the best." It took several years to acquire all of these, but you can have them today. Like Dave Bowers always said, "opportunity" is much more important than cash in this niche of the hobby. Some tokens and medals come along just once every hundred years or so, and no amount of money can flush them out of hiding.
So please have a look and let me know if anything piques your interest. First come, first serve. Good luck, and all the best.
Dennis
P.S. I am very easy to work with. If you have your heart set on any of the above and need time to come up with the funds, we can always work things out with monthly payments.

Thank you for the sales so far. Still a lot of great stuff that may never come up for sale again. I really do hope these "stay in the family," as in land in the collections of fellow forum members.
Thanks!

Pretty much at the amount I needed to sell now. If anyone is interested in anything else, please let me know. You can always make an offer if something is priced higher than your comfort level. The worst I will say is "no thank you."
Thanks for all the messages and comments. I'm not getting out of the hobby, just paying some bills.

As a former wordsmith, I love it when someone has the cojones to use the word "iconic" ... and it actually is!
None of these are in my current bailiwick, meaning absolutely no disrespect. But WOW!
Kind regards,
George
Love the D. Skidmore token! Actually, I find them all fascinating.
Really trying to find a reason why I need this in my collection while also trying to find a reason why I don't need it!
Great tokens and medals. Being from the Detroit area I really like the Snooks token. Bi-metallic too boot. If it had also been struck over on a quarter like the Bode example it probably would have pushed me over the edge as a seated quarter collector.
Thanks, guys.

@PROMETHIUS88
The Skidmore token above is THE Plate coin in the US Storecard book. In hand it is simply magnificent!
@fastfreddie

The Geo Snooks is the most oddball thing in my collection. Unlike the many bitmetallic tokens of the early 20th century, CWTs that are bi-metallic are extreme rarities! This is the only one I've ever seen.
