Alex Verdugo has received zero offers to join an MLB club this season.

in Sports Talk
With LA and the Cubs opening the season in Japan yesterday and today, time ticks away for Verdugo.
This, IMO, is the result of having a bad attitude towards rules and clashing with management. After 4 years with the Red Sox, the faithful were glad to see him go. One year with the Yankees, and lower than expected performance, Verdugo and his attitude sit by the phone that doesn't ring. So much potential, too much ego. Such a PALTRY trade for Mookie!!

He just got worse as his career went on. Im very happy that no one has any interest in Gallo either, that guy was so bad it wasnt even funny

Biggest problem with Verdugo was himself. He suffered from a serious case of delusions of grandeur...and it caught up with him.
Love it when a guy like Verdugo gets humbled like that, hopefully it continues
Gallo is just horrifically bad it would be criminal if he gets signed
such a pompous and mediocre player. glad he will be bagging groceries at the Krogers pretty soon...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
He might make back to the majors if he undergoes a severe attitude adjustment. I hope he saved the money he made from baseball if not!
My guess is he will probably end up in Mexico. Japan only allows 4 foreign players a team, South Korea only 3 but Mexico allows 7. He showed promise when he was 23 but not hes almost 30 with no power and little production. Maybe a minor league contract but no real reason to waste an MLB contract on him with all the talent coming out of college. Theres several teams him and Gallo wouldnt even be starters for in college
EDIT: Well I stand corrected. The Braves did something stupid and signed him for 1.5 million and he agreed to start the year in AAA. The Braves have a ton of money to waste with all their team friendly deals but I still dont get it. Theyre usually very smart and they just signed a below average player but they did also sign Jason Heyward so everyone misses sometimes

@Basebal21 It's not a bad deal for the Braves. 1.5 mil is nothing in today's sports world. It's a prove it contract. Alex Anthopolous is very good at securing these types of deals usually in the form of signing a free agent recently recovered from injury type situation (Chris Sale). Low risk, possible high reward. This signing is different since it's not an injury issue but it's an issue where a guy lost his way by either his ego or what not. Verdugo is still relatively young, and this is a prove it moment in his career. Maybe he can right the ship? Heyward hasn't played for the Braves in many years, I believe he's with the Padres now.
Verdugo will be playing with the Gwinnett Braves in AAA, almost close enough to hear the roar of the crowd at Truist Park, where the Braves play. Should be a humbling experience for him, lotsa bus rides ahead to Nashville, Charlotte and other venues. I seriously doubt he'll be staying in any 5 star accomodations like he's been accustomed to.
I'll bet he doesn't get resigned.
I dont like Heyward on the Padres at all. Theyve gone the Cubs route since Seilder passed away. Id rather see these bad players out of the league but do agree its a low risk for the Braves. I can kind of understand trying to get someone to fill a role with the injuries the Braves have in the OF he just wouldnt have been who I piked.
Alex has definitely done a very good job of getting very team friendly contracts with the superstars other than Riley who got so close to free agency he wasnt going to give them a discount. I dont think they actuality want to count on Verdugo but with Acuna coming back from injury and Profar getting hurt too I guess its a good gamble

I was thinking the same exact thing. He might have a bit of life left in the right spot.
It's his attitude that needs to change!
So does his swing. Little to no power and not a speed guy. Career OPS of 742. Solid defensive outfielders that struggle at the plate are a dime a dozen
