1955 Bowman cards- the position of catcher

Anyone else ever notice that the images for the most catchers are all fairly close... looks as if the mask just came off with eyes looking up in search of a pop-up foul ball.

Seems this was the only year with the use of a TV in the design- very futuristic and in hindsight, seems to have been a good call.

Still... I am not convinced this set has resonated as well with collectors as certain other sets.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

In 1955 there likely were fewer than 25,000 color TVs sets in the USA

and no MLB games in color, still the cards depicted cutting edge stuff for at least rest of that decade.

Thanks Estil… I do not recall seeing the Drake’s cards before. Seems that there were 36 different cards which sort begs the question whether the idea was scrapped or just limited in scope for various reasons

I agree! I’ve always appreciated the “period pieces” aspect of this set for that very reason. Also the player selection is very strong. It seems people either love or hate this set but I’m solidly in the “love” section.

Love the '55 Bowman set - was my dad's favorite growing up and the first HOF set I completed. I like the Drakes as well - will get at least one HOFer from that set at some point - maybe even a few.

My late Uncle was a TV and radio repairman. So obviously he liked the TV set.
