Sterling Sharpe

I played college football and I played against a lot of great players.. Brett Favre, Michael Irvin, Terry Allen, Jimmy Johnson (coach), Deion Sanders. and many many more canes, seminoles pros -- but I made a tackle on a hofer, sterling sharpe. he returned a kickoff against us and I tripped him up, or he would have taken it all the way. pretty cool. congrats to sterling.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Todd Ellis at QB & Sterling at WR were a big time combo for the Gamecocks.

I am not so sure his body of work is worthy of HOF status...has to be WR's out there more worthy?

I don't think so also, but did read that Sharpe over his seven years had only one WR that had more receptions and yards than him and that was Rice. Sad that his career ended so early.

Peak vs longevity argument. 1200 yards a year, 18 touchdowns his final year, 3-time All-Pro. Set the single season receptions record two straight years. His peak was definitely high enough. The bar was set with Davis and Sayers for longevity. By that standard, Sharpe, who had more good years than either one, certainly belongs.

The Hokie fans sure are loyal. I worked in Wytheville for a few years. Came to work on a Tuesday morning several years ago and blurted out "How about them Broncos"...... could have heard a pin drop & the looks... whoa. I'd just transferred from Washington State and didn't have a clue.

3 time Pro Bowl doesn't cut it for me...to me a HOFer should be at least 6 times....

Relocation was pretty lucrative back then if you were mobile. Relocation leave, per diem, mileage, 10% salary bump, closing costs paid on both selling & buying house, movers pack everything, set up beds, washer/dryer at new home, etc, etc...
We did it 4 times. And of course, the adventure of going someplace you've never been.

Pro bowl is a popularity contest... and he made 5 pro bowls. All Pro is a much bigger accomplishment and he was first team All Pro 3 out of 7 seasons.

As a lifelong Packet fan I always thought of Sterling as a better than average player, not quite HOF worthy. So I was surprised.. The HOF in Football is so different than baseball in my mind. I could tell you exactly from the Brewers has a chance at the HOF, but the Packers players of the past, who knows.. I seem to have no idea what the HOF looks for…
