The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association will soon exclusively offer a newly released (hot off the press) book for sale on their website and at selected Canadian coin shows; “Dominion Decimals – Canadian Decimal Coinage from 1867 to 1907” by Rob Turner. The 338-page hardcover book contains a detailed history of the decimal coinage issued by the Dominion of Canada between Confederation in 1867 and the opening of the Ottawa Branch of the Royal Mint in 1908. During this time, the Canadian government ordered and issued over 170 million bronze and silver coins in five denominations. In addition to providing considerable historical context for the period, the book contains detailed data on each of the seventy-one coinage orders placed over the forty years. The work was designed to be a reference book for numismatists and collectors studying the Victorian and Edwardian coinage of Canada. The information it contains was derived from numerous previously unpublished sources and rebuts many traditionally-held beliefs about these fascinating coins.

Disclosure: All proceeds go to benefit the RCNA. A grant for the printing costs was graciously provided by the J. Douglas Historical Research Foundation. The author has donated the book to the RCNA and receives no compensation from its sale.
