Bottom line help on PayPal

The majority of my Ebay sales are in the $25 to 200 range. I take credit cards via Paypal. Unquestionably this has value to me in time and convenience. I can estimate what that is worth to me in terms of being able to handle increased volumes. I also know the cost associated with using PayPal. It is marginally better to use PayPal/credit cards in my situation.

What I am wondering is: has anyone calculated or have a feel for how much if any, credit cards add to the selling price in the $25 to 200 range? Do big ticket items do better if credit cards are honored?

I only buy on eBay if I can use a credit card. Too many scam artists around.

I guess you'd have to assume people think it adds at least the 3% fee, or they wouldn't take them. If you get their MC/Debit card you can charge on it and get 1.5% back.

I have a love/hate relationship with PayPal. They are weasels not to be trusted and take alot out in fees but it's easy and conveinent.

My policy is no paypal over $400 (postal money orders/cashiers checks) because the fees are too high.

I sold a $1500 coin once and got a paypal payment. The fee was $44

Fortunately it was on a PR70DC I made.

The 1996 PR70DCAM A.S.E. I sold on eBay cost me $77.59 in PayPal fees, on a $2,600 sale. The sale was virtually pure profit, as I bought the coin from the Mint.

Now, if I didn't accept PayPal, and I am not a dealer with a merchant account to accept credit cards, would I have had the bids and final price? To me, the fees were worth it. But, if I was a dealer and the margins were close, I'd hate to think what the fees would amount to at the end of the year. I guess it's worth it if you are doing the smaller sales dollars.
