Id never thought id see the day when id be nervous to buy a nice card on ebay and have to think if its real or not. I don't understand why it seems like now there i such a boom with "fake patches" "fake serial #'s". I guess all it takes is one person to fake a swatch or a serial #, and all these dealers start catching on and want in on the business. The cards I will NEVER buy are buyback autographs. It seems like there are sooo many 1/1's. Give me a break, over the past two months I saw three Dan Marino 1/1 buyback autographs. I don't think so....all it takes is a little acholhol remover crap and it changes from #246/376 to "1/1". Im not sure what to trust..i guess the best way to go is machine stamped cards, i bet soon there will be no hand #ed autographs figuring im sure Playoff and UD will hear about this crap.

I still buy buybacks, but that is why I tend to buy the lower dollar ones and not the high dollar ones. I am not interested in special numbers like the jersey number either. I do worry about getting something fake though. One wonders if the hobby can survive losing people because of these dealers

Just don't buy gameused, there is way too much of it out there.

Autographs is the only way to go, if you're worried about seeing three 1/1, just buy autographs with the number stamped on it.

yea thats why i said machine stamped autos are the best way to go..too bad..this hobby is really gonna suffer as more and more people screw with it

Ya.. and its sad when an honest person pulls a nice patch of a great player and its a great card and people think its fake because of the scammers who put the fake ones in..

And 3 years ago people were saying I'll just get GU'd so my collection will be worth $.Now everyone jumps on the auto wagon.Not realiseing they'll just cause auto's to become as common as GU'd is now.The companies are going to adjust what they put out to coincide by what is selling.

Ya.. Topps or someone is coming out with a card product in which every base card you pull a jersey.. What are they going to be worth? Nothing.. Its crazy when gu first came out they were out of reach now some book at like $15

Always will be rip-offs in this hobby like any other I guess. But to make the psychologists happy I say look at it as a chance for these "negative" actions by others to enhance the "positive" actions we see very often and never praised. Look how many of you spoke out about this. I think it's cool that people on here are looking out for each other or trying to.

The best qualities are only realised when the worst have been exposed.

yea the flooding of GU is insane. I heard of that GU base set Topps is coming out with..theres 2 GU a pack, and its $15 a pack, so they will book like $6 a common..thats insane, although autos are flooding the market as much as GU is..still the good player autos will always survive..(Montana,Emmitt,Marino etc etc.)

Especially when you buy from hobby shops. I spent around $200 today and got crap.

Around $120 for 44 base issue cards, 2 common RC's, and 2 $15 jerseys.
and around $75 for an autograph redemption of a low end RC, crappy inserts, and base cards. Maybe around 100 cards total, so that's about $2 a card. Pretty sad, I'd be lucky to get 10% of what I paid.

I disagree. Companies can obtain game used from teams and dealers. When it comes to autographs, companies have to sign a contract with each player which can become very expensive. That's the reason you don't see many autographed cards of Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, Mike Piazza, Mariano Rivera, etc. Some athletes are either too expensive or just refuses to sign trading cards all together. So, you don't have to worry about autographs becoming as common as game used.
