The Stendebach Collection of Spanish Colonial 8Rs and World Coins at Stack's Bowers Jan NYC Auction

Hello CU,

LINK TO LOTS: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots?search=Stendebach+Collection&lots_range=upcoming

As mentioned in a previous post, buying a home has required me to sell some of my favorite coins from my collection. Most are Spanish Colonial 8 Reales and include toners, PLs and all eye appealing coins. All these coins will be part of “The Stendebach Collection” being auctions at Stack’s Bowers Galleries January NYINC auction, and each of them are like my children…love them all and happy to answer any questions about any coins if you have any, just PM me. No duplicate dates as each coin represented a space in my set, and each example is at the very top in terms of quality for the date.

Keep checking back with the link above, as several coins have yet to list publicly. Here are some previews:

PS - tried to make this post 24 hours ago, but got caught in review limo when I edited a typo. Please delete the original post if eventually approved so there are not duplicate posts.

Incredible stuff you've got up for sale there. That cab is one heck of a 63. 1784 is really lovely. 1787..... tons of great portraits. Makes me wish I collected Mexico. Good luck!!!

Thanks @Clio! It has taken many many years of being picky to assemble nice coins, and yes, you should collect some Mexico :)

Your right Lord M, the eye appeal on that Caballito is very enticing.

If I had the money I'd be bidding on the Pillar.

Unfortunately, housing in coastal California isn’t for the faint of heart. Sorry you had to sell the “babies,” but I’m sure you will do well.

I watched a few of these go and thought I had a fair chance at a couple, but the bidding was STRONG! Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! Hurts to see them go, but really helps with the house!

I picked up a couple for what I thought were decent prices.

A few sold for bargains - I am glad they found a good new home with you! I'd be curious to know which ones you got. Thanks for the bids!

A few portraits in the 1770s, 74/75/77. Not bargains per se, but nothing like the 1733 (a relatively plentiful date) going for $23k.

What did the 1738 Pillar sell for? I tried looking it up but I couldn't find it.

  • fluffy155fluffy155 Posts: 294 ✭✭✭✭✭

    $3600 w/ Juice

I was fortunate enough to win the 1810 Mexico 8 Reales, so it will have a good home for awhile.
