Do you care about ngc/pcgs, beans, etc...if you're a specialists in a series?

Does your eye for a particular series transcend whatever current standards exists from any grading service? Have you carved out your own set of standards for your particular series?

    You can be a specialist in a series with a strict eye for aesthetics, grade or whatnot while still caring about NGC, PCGS, CAC or other services. So, yes, I can be a specialist in a series (or multiple series) and can still care what other services might think about a particular coin.

    I bought an NGC PR70 Ultra Cameo "Early Release" Quarter - disliked the label so much that I sent it to PCGS for crossover

    It came back PR70DCAM with a First Strike Label and completed My Set

    So yes - I care about the grading service - and only collect PCGS coins

    Only slabs I buy anymore are PCGS rattlers ,or old ANACS\ANA soapbars.

    @JonJet I tried that with PCGS and remember them not allowing a first release or whatever the crossover from NGC had. Good for you.

    I'm not a specialist and I don't look at the label or grade. I generally buy a coin on Price>Eye Appeal, whether it has a green bean or is slabbed by NGC or PGCS makes no difference. Some of my favorite coins are raw or in an album.


    Or graded by Anacs...

    Slabbed IHC set - Missing the Anacs Slabbed coins
