Very cool. Interesting this one was struck on the actual day of 9-11. A lot of history there.

Of the 5,000 coins minted from original Kellogg & Humbert ingots recovered from the SS Central America shipwreck recovery, these coins were minted sequentially in 2001 from the start date to the end date of the voyage. The most coveted re-strike mintage date on which 98 proofs were produced is (perhaps unsurprisingly) September 11, 2001!

Because some were given special labels instead. Shipwreck coin, restrikes etc. I have several

I think it’s because it was given a “ Gem Proof “ Grade. You can Krack it out and send it in for numerical grading and true view.
