But i agree with ya, the video does sort of look like she stopped on purpose to encourage the crowd to sing. Perhaps she mistakenly thought the mic wasn't working?
In any event it had a very happy ending.

I believe her, she actually is a patriotic person. However i agree that wasn't a very good idea. Sometimes comedians strike out and Roseanne did on that bit.

The singing was just awful, especially the part where she says "for the land of the freeee."
She stopped on purpose. You can tell that the microphone is still working.
I was at a Cap/Canadian game in D.C. It must have been around 1980. The day before, it was announced in the news that the Canadian Gov't helped to secure the escape of American diplomats from the American Embassy in Tehran, during the American Hostage Crisis.
When they played the Canadian National Anthem, the 20,000 crowd gave a standing ovation for over 20 minutes!! It was so loud, the game was delayed 15 minutes!! Thank you Canada!!
This is not who sang that night. I just love the Canadian National Anthem, I hope you will also.

I love the Canadian anthem. It's easy to sing and perfectly captures the spirit of the country.
Fun fact: they changed the lyrics to the Canadian anthem in 2018.
I loved their old anthem, "Maple Leaf Forever."
I totally get why they dumped the lyrics (all about being part of the British empire), but I kinda wish they'd kept the tune.
