When Comps Don't Exist. How Do You Know What to Charge?

I have some cards that I think are valuable, but there are currently no comps on EBay. How do I know what to charge? Should I sell them in a different way? Any other ideas?
I just entered this space and am looking for some advice.

going w the information provided, i'd say start them out at $500k and work down.
or perhaps post some pics or give us a little more detailed information to work with?
are they graded? if not, are they real?

My wife posted this video a week ago. We just don't know what to do with them.
You can look and find the closest 'thing' and use that as a baseline. Start your price high and use the best offer option. You will get a lot of low-ballers but some serious offers too. After some time, if you don't sell it, you can adjust your price accordingly. If you value the item at a higher price than anyone else then you will not sell it. If it is an item that people really value, it will get attention. Take your time.

Emar - make sure to watch the video again. These are error cards. They have players on both sides.
Probably not a mainstream error card like the nnof thomas.

I think the overproduction Era created some anomalies
Sadly, unless I'm extremely mistaken, these cards are just misprints. Not possible to be graded. Not a rare test issue. Only value is to player completists, and I'd be surprised if even the most popular would get $5.
not sure if they are valuable but they are unique for sure and not common. There is a market for everything. The commons won't bring much but you could likely do ok with stars and hof's not make a killing but I think $5-10 on a star card to the right buyer.
Someone always has to go first, otherwise there would never be "comps". I remember being bothered by a card shop that flat out refused to sell new cards until the next Beckett came out with pricing. It was run by an older couple and they didn't seem to have a great amount of knowledge, but were riding the wave of the 1990s when everyone was into cards.
Even if a similar card of the same player (example: a 1/box insert) was "worth $20 and a new issue was the same odds and roughly the same type of set, they would not even consider that this new card was probably going to book for $20.
I know it worked out just fine, but you'd almost have to wonder how people functioned before price guides! Imagine setting your own price and people either buying it or offering you less...oh the possible money left on the table must have been insane!!!
Stories like this make me wonder how people function in a day to day society.

I would have to second what has been said. While they are definitely an interesting variation, just about anything from 1990 Donruss is borderline worthless. You might be able to get a couple of bucks for cards with the stars, but beyond that you could warm your house by burning them in the fireplace
i disagree. you won't be retiring, but i'd put that griffey up for $50 and the johnson for $30.
both are hofs and have huge collecting bases. even the "error card collector" base is pretty big.
and '90 donruss is loaded w errors, but this is not that. these are errors on top of misprints and both sides appear to be glossy. these are very unique and different than the typical '90 donruss error.
heck, i'd give ya $10 right now for them if you want to settle for the advice above.
again, you won't be retiring, but you can prolly take the wife out for a nice steak dinner w no wine or dessert though.
My dad had them in his basement for the past 30 years, They downsized their house and brought them to me. He had no clue they were even in there.

I would certainly post them on ebay. It was suggested to have a buy it now of $50 and $30. If it was me, I would do 7-10 day auctions that end Sunday afternoon with starting bids of $50 and $30. That way, if a couple Griffey collectors really want it, maybe it'll go up to $100. If they don't get any bids, then I would place them as buy it nows at $50 and $30.
In terms of getting people to see your auctions, you want to make sure all key words are in the title. The HOFer's first and last name must be in the title along with "1990 Donruss" along with something like "double sided" or something like that. You will get plenty of eyeballs on the title due to "Griffey" or "Johnson" being in the title. The key is to have enough information in the title to want them to click on it. If it was me, I would have the picture of the other side of the card as the main picture. That way they see "griffey" in the title, but hopefully get intrigued because it appears to not be a regular issue 1990 Donruss.

you should definitely have griffey being the 1st pic. not the common.
Shipping seems a bit excessive for 1 card.
I just selected USPS First class. What do you suggest? I will change it.

I charge a flat rate of $5 for USPS First class. Can send pretty much any where in the USA for about $4.15. Buy a bubble mailer from Target for 45 cents. Put the card in a penny sleeve and top loader with cardboard taped to each side. Try and use the blue painters tape if you have any. Good luck with the sale.
I agree that the Griffey and Johnson need to be the first picture in your auctions. And I agree that the shipping is high. Personally, I charge a flat rate of $3. That doesn't cover everything but your auctions came up $8.20 each for me, and some buyers may be put off by those fees.

I would not assume this was an intended test card. I also would not put that in my title, If I was not sure. But good luck.
there are 1990 donruss test cards that were double sided. but, they were printed in white and I believe blue. I haven't seen a test issue that was red.

I do stand corrected. I see a double sided red BGS Graded 9.5 Rickey Henderson from another seller. BGS called it a double front. But that seller is also calling it a test card. Again good luck, I was wrong.

These double-front red cards came up on eBay a few years ago at the same time as the influx of Aqueous test cards and Blue-White test cards. Someone had an uncut sheet for sale, and it went for a healthy price if I remember correctly. Don't sell your Griffey to anyone with a best offer (IMHO), since it's likely to go a heckuva lot higher as the auction progresses.
How many different double-front cards do you have, by the way? The video seems to not work so much.

If anyone is curious, the Griffey card just sold on Ebay for $151. The Randy Johnson card sold for $37.
