    Holding the coins by the edge is good. I don't use gloves to handle coins unless it's a proof coin where the metal can react to the oils on my hand like silver, then I put on a cotton glove. Handling old silver coins like the one you have pictured by the edge won't damage it.

    I usually handle coins by the edge and give them acetone soaks when I first receive them and before sending them out to NGC or PCGS to remove any surface oils or contaminants

    I consider condition and and value in terms handling and storage. Less care is required in handling a storing a worn coin with minimal value. If we have a nice red copper coin... even if it is somewhat common... I would like to keep it that way. I like using air-tites and similar type products for those coins I would rather not spend the money to have graded but are worth the effort to preserve as they currently are. As an example, several of my Victorian British 1d coins are in air-tites because of the condition. While some are not MS, some are lightly circulated and an air-tite seems to be a reasonable option for coins that have a value in the $25-125 range.
