1971 British 2 pence "new pence" coin. Is it worth anything?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knew whether a great condition 1971 British "New pence" coin was worth anything. I keep seeing them sold for prices of $1000 or more but some sites say they are worthless. Are they valuable, or not?

according to my world coin book, they are worth between 25 cents and a $1.75, don't believe everything you see
they did make proofs 350,000 of them but they are only worth $2.50
so simply put no they are not very high-value coins

I'm curious- which site(s) you've seen them sell for that amount?
Could be a news article that one sold at auction that was a graded top pop or some sort.
It’s a common coin worth a dollar at most.

I used to sell them in my 10c bin, as I believe I mentioned in the previous thread about them.
Some have SOLD for $1,000? Now that I would love to see concrete evidence of!

Ebay.co.uk has a bunch of "tricky" 2P coins for sale that are NOT the 1983 NEW PENCE type - the one that actually has value. They are NEW PENCE from years that were prior to the change in 1982 to TWO PENCE.
Caveat emptor.
