Seeing that the gold toned piece appears to loosing it's plating, I recommend that your friend visit their local LCS and get an offer from them. Even if the silver one is real, shipping costs override the value.

Howdy, thank you. The gold coin can't be loosing its plating since it is solid gold. Unless I am really missing something. It does have a dirt mark on the cheek area.

And since I do not do bullion myself I am as far away from being knowledgeable as one can be. Busty halves are my thing. Well, also I enjoy casino silver tokens. Dennis

Its not uncommon for 100 Corona to have planchet streaks.

First off I never said I was an expert at anything here. Just trying to help a friend. Now with a little research here is what the gold pieces are made of (below). The silver does already say it is sterling so that goes without saying it is .925 sterling. And I was not trying to deceive anyone. I said for sale at melt. And melt is just that, melt value.

100 Coronas, as the coins are dubbed, are minted of .900 fine (21.6 karat) gold, and each coin contains 0.9802 ounce of gold

Seeing that you are new to the forum, and you're selling someone else's coins, my advice would be send him to local shops for their best price. Or, tell him to join the forum and sell them here himself. Being a middle man with no knowledge on these coins is the first step to regretting you ever got involved.

So it's a nice bullion piece with a melt value (as of today) at US$1,646.25

A coin shop might come close to melt on the gold piece, maybe 10% under in a busy shop with bullion clientel. But it's not a desirable piece like the AGE (American Gold Eagle), etc etc so there is no premium here. The dealer would be lucky to sell it at melt value himself, so he has to buy it for less than melt to make a profit.

Another bullion piece, worth close to melt of US$17.03 as of today.

A dealer might only offer $10 on the silver piece, if anything at all. (It's a lot of work for the dealer and not a lot of prit so some dealers won't buy it at all.) Your friend could get close to melt online (ebay etc), but shipping costs would eat up half the value.

Your friend might list these here on the BST forum but there's no guarantees here and a lot of work. He'll have to send the gold coin registered mail and fingers crossed that he gets payment after delivery. I think a coin show is the best option. He can solicit offers from several dealers and pick the best price.

Why is it amazing I did not know it was not solid gold or .999 .? It does not say so on the coin as does the sterling piece. I never said it was solid anything. Just offering for sale at melt value. Maybe it would come across better if you tried to inform instead of belittle. All forums have one, guess you are it here.

After a comparison with APMEX pics, nothing obvious on the OP's gold that makes it look counterfeit. I do see one discoloration and two possible planchet defects on the obverse. If the plating allegations are because of the obverse defects, consider that they might just be planchet defects.

The silver onza also looks authentic.

Good to know I'm getting free advertising from google. My only publicity on the book is an ebay listing and a link to it in my signature. .

If your seeing ads on the forum, I think there's a way to turn them off. I don't see ads on the forum.

103.5 silver Eagles = one ounce gold eagle , today.
Divide gold price by silver price. Want to go bid or ask ? Seems the guys wanting to trade will be holding and do not need "ask/bid" numbers, or price,... except to determine the GSR. The original poster got his best info from everyone else. Ours is just the side attraction.

But alas.... it's all weights and measures. I'll buy at melt all day
