If you get a chance to visit Vienna, I recommend contacting the coin department and arranging a visit. I only stayed for about an hour five years ago, but it was one of the highlights of my coin collecting life. The staff were exceedingly gracious.

Well, The British Museum has a very decent group of aurei that belonged to King George III displayed in a coin drawer - located in the old King's Library room (I think they call it 'The Enlightenment Room' nowadays).
I'd like to find out more about this particular group in Vienna, but "Golden Codex" is a term that has been used to describe many Museum is treasures in Europe. It doesn't google well.
I wonder if they coins are held in place with wax or glue.
They do not seem to be resting on their bottom edge.
I do see that a pane of glass is front, and a plain black board on the back.
My collection of Aurei is set up sort like that but in a Dansco album.
