Off Center

I found another interesting penny. It looks to me like it was off-center, as words on both front and back are cut off. I have learned though that I should check this board for "post mint damage", or "every coin is like that" responses, before putting it in my "save" file. So, what do you think? Thanks!

It's a keeper. You should treat the green areas on the back. Not sure what's the best thing to use, maybe some of the experts will tell us in a bit.
Cool. Did you find that in change or in a roll? I collect Lincoln cents like that from my birth year.
A couple of minute soak in pure acetone (not fingernail polish remover as it as scents, etc) should take care of the green stuff. Soak, rinse, soak and then rinse with acetone again.

A nice offcenter.
Thanks! I found it in a coin roll from a grocery store customer service desk.
Thanks! Finally, a coin that doesn't turn out to be normal.
Nice find!

Thank you so much. I am reading it now.
Very cool coin. Nice find.
Alright, Alright, Alright.
Really nice find!
Looks good, it's lightly circulated but still a nice find.
You can buy this sort of stuff for not too much money but to find one yourself is amazing. I have never found anything close to this much off center.
A lot of people chase minor anomalies like insignificant die chips, etc., but your cent is a legitimate error.
You probably won't forget the moment you found it.
Cool find and a keeper.
Nice find for a paper-wrapped roll of cents.
If it were more O/C, it wouldn't have fit into the roll.
It's about 5% off-center.

Nice find of a genuine off-center-strike mint error.
If you have an accurate scale, weigh it.
There could be a remote possibility that it turns out to be struck on a left-over solid bronze blank from 1982.
Most 1983 cents are struck on copper-plated zinc and weigh about 2.5 grams.
Solid bronze cents of 1982 and earlier weigh about 3.1 grams.
cool pick up. make sure you get that green goo off the back
That is a nice error find....I have not found an off center coin in change or rolls....I did find a cent blank planchet. Cheers, RickO
Never found one of those in the wild. Congrats!

Get the green crud off that guy. Soak it in pure acetone and then dab that spot with a qtip. Peace Roy

Very nice find!
You are right. I will not forget. I found a 2000 wide AM yesterday too, but I have a few of them already so wasn't excited. But this was different from anything I already had. Even though it is not worth much, it is still cool to have,
I have better luck getting my rolls from grocery stores for some reason.
If you find something that works then definitely stick with it.
I weighed it. Sorry to say, it is zinc. Had it been copper, that would have REALLY been something!
You needed another "Agree" to get the 5 Agrees badge so I gave you one.
You also got your 2nd star today!
Thanks! That was very nice of you!
And now you have 25 likes cuz I just gave you 4 more.
Next project: lets give @Nscjohnson the same advice you gave me - why not make that coin their icon. Crop it down to size and add it to your profile. It is a very worthy picture to use!
Great idea and he would get another badge for photogenic.
That's cool! Surprised no one's plucked it from circulation since 1983.

I took your advice. Thanks!
When they get more than about 5% off-center, that's when the shape starts to change? This one isn't any larger than other pennies. It didn't stand out in the roll at all when still rolled. It wasn't until I started going through the roll that I saw it. It wasn't one of those red and white sealed rolls from the mint. It was one of the brown and red kinds you buy to roll yourself. Whoever did it wasn't paying attention to what they were rolling. There were two Canadian pennies in there as well. Thanks!
Looks good! A trophy icon...
