Unfortunately, that has the look of artificial toning, likely done by exposing it to fresh hard boiled eggs.
It's too bad, those are cool coins.
Certainly, one of my all time favorite designs.

@MattTheRiley Thank you, I have the same version, and artificial patination 99% has taken place. Anyway, I love this awesome design.
Looks to be above average strike as well, a shame there...
Well, just Love coins, period.
Even if it's artificial toning, I think it's still attractive.
