I was at home and news came in fast and furious across television news. I was stunned as just a kid to hear about a sports hero of mine was suddenly gone. As fate would have it, my father's work had a bus trip from central Jersey up to Yankee Stadium to see them play the Orioles. That game fell on the date of the infamous Bobby Murcer game in which I was seated in the Upper Deck right over 3rd base. I was 9 years old. What sticks in my mind the most to this day is Thurman's face on the scoreboard for what seemed like an eternity has the crowd cheered non stop. I didn't cry, and I didn't cheer. I was mesmerized by the scene.

I too was waiting to be born. Even in my mother's womb I was already hiding cards from my future wife. I still have a 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson stashed behind my mothers uterus.

I was watching the Phillies & Mets on a Black/White TV in my bedroom that afternoon & I'll never forget that Lee Mazilli was up & he was pointing to the scoreboard where the news was first being reported....

Playing in the sandbox out back or riding the neighbors horse if I had to guess. Probably dreaming about which Star Wars toys I'd be getting for my birthday the next month.

Not a clue. Probably didn't even hear about it that same day, guessing my dad probably told me at some point after seeing it on the news or in the newspaper. I found out at some point obviously, but it is not seared into my memory. I was 10.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I was also ten years old. did not really pay attention at that age. I only followed the royals and cardinals did not really paid attention to yankee players. sad he was going to be a hall of fame player.

I was a shocked and stunned 16 year old Yankees fan. I remember it like it was a hell of a lot less than 40 years ago. Thirty-two is too young to die. What a great competitor Thurman was.
