Value of complete 1962 Jello boxes?

Anyone have info on the value of these boxes? I've had them for years. Hopefully the pictures come up, if not, they are of Ernie Banks and Ron Santo.

You would have to consult past auction databases. A couple years back, Robert Edward Auctions had a '62 Roger Maris box. My memory is hazy, but I think it went for about $3,600. Google 1962 JELL-O complete box, and see what appears. In my opinion, there's no cut and dried price guide on something as rare as complete boxes on these. Safe to say they're "miles ahead" of a basic cut card, and a numerically-graded specimen, assuming the box is in nice, mostly un-creased condition.

The only things tougher than what you have are complete boxes with the product, which I have seen listed at the finer auction houses, on rare occasions, and the really rare one---complete unfolded boxes that were squirreled away by a printing worker at the plant that put the complete boxes into a machine to open it, insert the waxed paper bag with the Jello, and then fold and glue the flaps shut. On the Net54 baseball forum, JELL-O expert Ken Marks recalled the find around 1983 of close to 80 of those unfolded boxes. Those were the years when the hobby was growing like a teenager, and all sorts of exotic baseball cards found their way into the hobby via a show to be bought by a dealer for good money at the time. Today they're worth boo coo, as a display piece and a conversation piece, and one of his centerpieces in a '62 JELL-O or given player collection.

By the by, yours truly wrote a 468-page E-book on a CD of the immediate post-war regional / food cards, entitled Never Cheaper By the Dozen. I led off with a chapter about a previously-mentioned '62 JELL-O unfolded box in mint condition, in the rarest flavor, Apple, and a most desirable player as its free prize card----Mickey Mantle. Google the title and the press release will come up, with instructions on how to order yourself a copy. Hopefully, you have a disk drive on your computer tower!

These are a similar design to the 1962 Post Cereal set that is featured in an article in this months (November) SMR magazine.

I want to say they don't anymore. Most graded ones you see are in SGC slabs. PSA, if they don't, used to at one point or another.

A couple more references for you. There is a link to a Huggins and Scott auction for a complete Koufax box and a GREAT article by Dan Maybe about 62 Jell-O that also includes the distribution of players and the boxes they were on. It is an older article and the list has been updated since then but a good read nonetheless.

My Post box was done a couple of years ago. I don't know why PSA would stop grading them, but I guess they might not.

Thanks VERY MUCH for posting. Now I understand why the black lines are so rarely found on the single cards.

62 was just a test run for them. 63 was much better!

Besides Jell-O gelatin, the company also put cards on their pudding boxes in 1962. Here is a Roger Maris on a coconut cream pudding box.
