I saw this on the recent DNW auction and thought it was interesting. I was thinking of putting in a bid, but it sold £500 anyway! (I lost out on my other bids as well.)

Since it a private pattern or piece de caprice, I suppose it is just for fun - an eight pence piece wasn't really needed, was it? Or was it a parody - a double groat, ⅔ shilling, 3 to a florin or 30 for a pound? I like that its design includes the Welsh dragon and the Manx triskeles. Maybe there is more history about this piece to be discovered.

Plenty in Bull and other sources. I love this era of British coins, but the private issues I leave alone - some of the larger denominations are nice & can't fault the Huth "Hawaii" gold coin.

The Welsh dragon threw me for a sec, since it is upside-down here.
