1908 Kuang Hsu obvious fake. I mean obvious. But maybe?

This piece came from a 1970s-era 3-ring binder of early 20th century pieces, from which I was able to select two blazing BU junk dollars and a 1914 Yuan Shih Kai (solid BU but hairlined) as well as a few BU Mexican pesos.

This one was crazy suspicious, but I got it cheap and figured it was worth the education to try to figure out exactly what it was or what it was supposed to be.

It's got a good heft and the Sigma seems to think it's...something. And while the surfaces look cast and counterfeit, the surfaces don't look entirely unlike the Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). Kuang-hsu Dollar Year 29 (1903) XF40 PCGS that sold at HA a year ago this month.

So. Cheap fake? Vintage replica? Provincial token?

I would have to see it in hand to be sure, but it looks genuine to me, just pretty beat up.

Not a rare coin. I just bought a pair of them in UNC at the last show for $40 each.
