1938 5 Pengo St Stephens Hungary
I remember buying this coin for $ 30- $40 raw when I first got started collecting world coins.
The below specimen is the lone 66 at PCGS .....NGC has graded 6 in 66 none finer. I really like this coin it sizzles!

In an odd coincidence , I picked up some 5 pengos as bullion the other day. They have a ton of wear on them , I was surprised as I didn't think a coin like that would circulate much with all that was going on in that area then
I don't believe that they were intended to circulate either - banknotes were issued in those amounts during the late 1930s
why did they name their currency after a coin op video game?
I've got four or five but they are not even close to being
as nice as yours. Your coin is beautiful!!
Awesome coin!
Its interesting how the various LMU countries kept to a 25 gram coin but reduced the purity at different times because of whatever pressures they were under at the time. Oddly , it looks like Hungary's .900 silver 5 corona was a bit undersized at 24 grams in the early 1900's but the .835 1 and 2 corona were not.
When the regency currency switch happened the one and two pengo drooped to 64% silver but stayed at 5 and 10 grams , the 5 pengo went to 64% also but went to the full 25 grams. When WW2 began the silver coins must have disappeared pretty quickly , the early 40's 1 2 and 5 pengo changed to aluminum .
These are all 1930 type 5 pengos bought together and with very similar wear levels . Not very attractive surface wise I'm afraid but I assume they sat for a long time without being handled somewhere after being removed from use.
I'm guessing the 1930's examples circulated for 8 or 9 years and the 1938's probably not at all ?
I’m a fan of the type as well.

Not sure but may not be the restrike ?
Otherwise would not PCGS said so on the holder ?

Isn't there supposed to be a rosette on the restrikes

I think you may be right about the rosette .....is there a rosette on my coin .....I cannot tell where to look ?
But based on the cert number this may be a restrike.

Here is one that sold on ebay ....note they identified it as a restrike .

I've heard a rosette should be "in the vicinity" of the mint mark . Yours appears to have a BP for budapest under the shield . I don't see anything close by it.
However , I have also heard that only base metal coins had the rosette near the mint mark but silver coins it was on the obverse.
I found this cointalk thread on the subject that is interesting

tons of pics
Thank you for the link .

So much information in that thread
but I think my take away is that original mintage dwarfs the restrikes. I feel like the 1938 coins would have hardly circulated at all with war right on the door step.
