PWCC-PQ Stickers Bringing High Prices...

64 Rose psa-9 $11211( psa-9 in last month's PWCC auction sold for just $6700)
54 Banks psa-8 $12900 ( an 8 usually sells for no more than $7500)
64 Mantle psa-8.5 $7077 ( I wanted this one but was not even the underbidder. I underestimated the value of the PQ sticker)
59 Mantle psa-8 $6956 (this is usually a $4000-5000 card...I believe)
Your thoughts on the PQ sticker value are welcome! It is bringing surprising prices!

The cards are strong; sticker or no sticker most of those cards are getting bidders who want the card and can plainly see with their eyes what the stickers are saying. If the sticker was on a weak card the card wouldn’t get the same action.

Buy the card not the sticker
The sticker alerts buyers to outstanding cards for the grade...directs buyers to take a closer look at a card w/great eye appeal for the grade. It works!
I absolutely want as many eye balls and bids when I consign and PWCC does a great job with the sticker designation.
I have a consignment order going to PWCC next month.
Monte - I was surprised on the 59 Mantle. Centering was very strong, but the card had 4-6 fish eyes/print marks and bottom two corners looked average even with a naked eye. Sticker definitely helped.
Every time I see these PWCC stickers like HE or PQ I'm reminded of Chris Farley in the movie Tommy Boy saying.....
"Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time."
its funny. I just watched an interview with Brent and he mentioned that they dont get too much into grading. something along the lines of the time investment and leaving it up to the tpg. then I see they are putting their own shine on some cards with the PQ designation, and they disagree with PSA on grades for all the 97 green PMG's that just went up for auction. you either trust TPG or you dont. I certainly trust them more than I trust Brent for grading.

In the sense that the stickers from PWCC have hung a lantern on the concept of eye appeal and centering, and how those rare attributes should/do command a premium over average examples in any grade, the stickers have done a good thing for the hobby. Yet as with anything, individuals need to also think for themselves and not blindly hand over their judgement (in this case to PWCC).
Much in the same way a buyer should examine the card in the holder and think/decide for themselves, as to whether or not they concur with the graders' assessment. When buyers let their own judgment atrophy and simply react to the sticker (be it PWCC's or a TPG's) without employing their own critical acumen, that's the thing to avoid.

Can’t argue that these additional opinion stickers are not having the desired effect.
The problem with the Pwcc stickers is that pwcc loses its ability to claim 100% impartiality. There are no transparent standards associated with their application so the world has to take it on faith that they will be applied consistently.
There are several ways these stickers could be abused. They could be deliberately misapplied for pwcc’s benefit or they could be applied for some larger consigners more liberally than for others as a reward for their business volume.
I’m not saying that this has happened. I’m not saying it will happen. What I am saying is that there are well know grievances in this hobby regardiing similar self-interested behaviors and favoritism existing.
It would be better for the hobby overall if one of the major players in the sales side was 100% above reproach and/or temptation. With these stickers that is not possible for pwcc.

The stickers have essentially "outed" needles in the haystack. The work I used to put in to identify cards which are extremely high end for the grade has now been done by PWCC. I know many here don't care about the financial return of a card, but for those of us who do, cost basis is a major factor in earning a good return on a card. That cost basis just went up significantly when you buy a HE or PQ card.
The way I think about the the stickering system is that PWCC has basically increased my cost basis on the card by doing the extra work of identifying high end cards for the grade. It's essentially transferring the value you created by putting in a little extra due diligence in examining a card over to PWCC. It saves me time now, but it ultimately costs a lot because now the card is outed and I'm competing with more people.
Some people are happy about PWCC offering the service; some not. It's certainly been a windfall for them financially and was a very savvy marketing move by Brent.
As has been said, one should never blindly accept those stickers. They are PWCC's opinion. Sometimes I find them to be accurate, other times they are way off imo. And you can find examples where PQ and HE final selling prices are much closer to VCP than others. When I see that, I'm encouraged because it means that more and more in this hobby are buying the card and not the holder (or the sticker).
