Loading marks

Hi everyone. Looking for advice on how a loading mark is graded. If the loading mark doesn’t go through to the surface and is just noticeable on the back of the card does or to what extent does that affect the grade of the card?

But when you open the rack pack, and send the card to PSA that has a loading mark on the back, how do they handle that if the front is unblemished?

PSA 6 max, depending on severity, in my experience. In general, not worth submitting.

I've never heard of or seen the term before.

I've seen these on cards in racks from like late '70s to early '80s. I'm not sure what the technical term is for it. Loading mark or loading notch? Something along those lines. It's usually on one of the top cards IIRC.

Here's one I just found. Check out the little mark under Orioles on the Martinez card. It's on the bottom edge of the card.

Loading mark is part of determining if it is authentic and unopened. One factor, clearly not all.

Loader marks are commonly found on bottom edges of cards on top of a rack pack or on top edges of cards on bottom of a rack and were caused when the first or last card in the cell caught in the machine at the Topps factory. It affects only the top or bottom card in the rack. You also see loader marks occasionally on the side edge of the top card in a cello pack.

Awesome rack. 1971 racks are very popular these days. The value of an unopened rack is almost always far greater than the sum of the raw cards inside the pack.
