Am I misremembering, or did people hand out trading cards for Halloween in the early 1970s?

Happy Halloween you turkeys.

Probably another one of my dreams, but I seem to remember packs of 2-3 1974 Topps football cards back in the days of trick or treating. Was I on a sugar high, or did this actually happen?

I remember receiving packs of cards back in the mid-70's - 75 Mini's come to mind.

Yes topps marketed 1974 fun bags for Halloween. The baseball and FB wax packs included 2 cards and a stick of gum. Basketball packs were full size. There was also 2/3 card cello packs too.

Use to own, then temptation took over and opened. Some included creature feature packs or wacky packs, mine had 6 wacky series 12 packs IIRC

Great feedback, I always thought the fun packs were "full" packs of cards, but for some reason I thought the Halloween packs only had a few cards. Oh to be a kid again.

I thought about doing that this year. My wife told me we'd get egged.

We only got about four groups anyway, what happened to trick or treating!?

took mine out last night. In our city, it is really only certain neighborhoods that hand out candy. those places are mobbed, but the rest of town is pretty normal. no house we went to gave out any cards

I'm not an expert on the subject but I understand "Trunk or Treat" has become the big thing in this area.

Bill Buckner lived up the street in L.A. when I was very little kid. If you rang his doorbell, he or his wife would give you baseball cards (year round)!

Being a Cubs fan in the late 70's/early 80's when Billy Buck was a Cub, he wouldn't give out autographs or hardly deal with the fans at all when we were at games. Hard to believe he would answer his own door.

Late 70's - early 80's I received my first football cards trick or treating.

In the Philadelphia area, they had fun packs in 1975 or 1976 that had packs of 75 minis. As a kid, that was the only way I knew they existed. I will check my Wholesale Cards and Stan Martucci catalogs, but I don't recall them offering minis. Same with Galasso. I don't remember seeing them at the Philly show until it had moved to Willow Grove.

Early/mid 80s - remember wacky packs and hockey packs. How many Gretzkys got tossed??

250-350 kids strong in our neighborhood.

Last night I saw something a bit revolting as well....there was a significant amount of car traffic where parents are now driving their cars to follow their trick or treaters from house to house. At times it seemed the drivers were actually pissed off that there were so many kids in the street walking from house to house.

    Odd time indeed!

Im glad you said this. I thought I was over reacting. I was fit to be tied watching cars driving with their hazards on tailing their kids from door to door. I know in the grand scheme of life, it’s petty...but it irritated the heck out of me. Laziness is a big pet peeve of mine.
I can already tell that I’m gonna be an ornery old man when I get older.
