France (Duchy of Lorraine): silver "sword" type demi-gros of Antoine the Good, ca. 1508-1544

As late medieval coins go, this is a relatively common and therefore affordable type. The sword motif is rather compelling.

Antoine, Duke of Lorraine, known as "Antoine the Good", was an early 16th century contemporary of Henry VIII of England. Like Henry, he was painted by Hans Holbein the Younger in the 1543 portrait below, which was made a year before his death.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
