Never Assume

When dealing with other collectors I guess I assume they have as much pride in their stuff as I do. So when I agreed to purchase a lot of complete sets from 1976, 1978, 1982 and 1984 from a fellow collector, I guess I assumed they would come more in a "complete set" form. Instead, below is what I got. My first clue was a large hole in the corner of the box which exposed loose cards inside. My worst fears were confirmed as the box was opened. I know there was a thread about bad packaging recently, but I couldn't find it. I'd like to add this to that thread.

Ugh, that is horrible!! Why would someone not have the set it a separate closed type box??
Yikes. I wonder how the seller could determine that the sets were in fact complete before selling them to you.
buying O-Pee-Chee (OPC) baseball
That's impressive.
if only there was a way to neatly stack cards together and put them in boxes specifically designed for sports cards. Whoever can solve these two problems will make a fortune.
That was a horrendous packing job, If that was an ebay seller please share their user id to block.

It was off a Facebook group. He is refunding me after he gets off work (allegedly). He said he's "shipped that way before without issues whatsoever." I said "I have no words" (even though I had plenty no so good ones). He said "I have nothing to say, that's all on me." We'll see if he follows through. I'm curious how many fell out of the hole in the side while in route.
It's not the greatest packing, but also I suspect the box exploded during shipment as normally the Post office will tape it up if it is starting to come loose (this looks like a post office tape job to me) ..It's the I used a big box that wasn't rated for the weight of the cards and this is what happens..Sorry to see that, a bunch of great cards pretty well toast. If the duct tape had been all around the box and not just the lids of the card boxes, they might have made it a bit better, but I would suspect the corners would be all dinged up from bouncing around...

I may be hoarding too much 80's junk wax but I like it!
Hopefully he follows thru with your refund. Next question is do you let the other FB group members know what his shipping looks like if he does refund you? That doesn't look like a one-off situation and even if the tape had held the boxes together those cards were probably still bouncing around enough to still get damaged.

I will wait for the refund, then express my concerns to the group as a whole. I've had pretty decent luck in that group even though I know many on these forums are not big fans of the group (or group leader).
This was my first though as well. The seller clearly did not prepare the cards for the rigors of the journey but I'd bet dollars to donuts the post office put that box through the ringer. The cards look like someone had scooped them up off the ground and tossed them back into the box in a hurry.

I’m in the same group. I’m surprised at the number of posts I see where cards are put into a flat rate box with no other protection. When I ship in bulk I always put them first in a card box, even if I have to cut an 800 count box down to size and tape an end piece on.
Did you ship it via HDS and have Ace Ventura deliver it for you?
What a mess.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
Yup, that's when I just send it right back on their dime and get my refund.
Received this last week, with just one additional piece of crumpled brown paper for packing, in a box about 4 times too big for the journey to my home. I was sick when I opened it, because as someone that grew up watching The Baseball Bunch, I'd been wanting to add this bobblehead to my collection for some time. The Chicken bobbleheads aren't particularly rare or expensive, but you just hate to see things destroyed so senselessly. Besides snapping off at the ankles, the main portion of the body bobbled so vigorously on its trip to me, that it chipped and wore the paint in portions of the lower body, also. I contacted the seller with photos, and he couldn't have been more accommodating in giving me no hassle, and extending an immediate and complete refund, even telling me there was no need to return it to him. So I still have the broken Chicken, but haven't gotten around to attempting a repair job yet.
I wish sellers took as much pride in their products as the buyers do. That's a cool piece.
Geez, I mean come on, not even a bit of bubble wrap? makes ya wonder...

Seeing a thread like this makes me think that there are just way too many complete morons in this world. I have been the victim of poor packaging more times than I'd like to remember. I continue to get flat items that are mailed loose, in oversized envelopes and/or without sufficient bending protection at least monthly. Do these idiots just not care or are they that clueless? I have been lucky a few times to avoid damage and other times not so lucky. The senders never seem to give a rip either.
