Still Can't Believe It

Last night, I took my youngest (11) and middle (14) sons to the Sixers v Nets game at the Barlcay Center. We got there early as my sons wanted to see if they could get autographs of the Sixers. They are huge fans and had on Simmons and Embiid jerseys. Before the game, we had no luck but learned the Sixers came and left by the zamboni entrance behind the basket. As the Sixers had a huge lead, people started clearing out with several minutes left. I was telling my middle son that it may be better to just leave and go get some food for the drive home, but he wanted to go over to the exit. We were only a couple sections over and Embiid, Simmons and McConnell were still on the court completing interviews, so we went over. At the top of the entrance, a couple had just gotten up to leave. I told my sons to maneuver to that row.
As Ben Simmons was going up the exit, I managed to hold up my camera to take these photos.
You can see Simmons walking up the exit. My middle son has on the red jersey. In the last photo as he is reaching out, the scalp and hairline to his lower left is Ben Simmons. When my son turned around, he had this huge grin on his face. I asked him if he got to high five Embiid or Simmons (I took the photos hastily and didn't know who had been coming down the exit). He looked down and had these in his hands (as later photographed at home):
A forever memory had been created. I am still shocked that this happened and am so excited for him, that I wanted to share. At the next White Plains show, we will get a display case for them. Thanks.

That is a memory he will keep forever!!
That's what it's all about. Great memory for pops and the kids. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to enjoy (and sit through) a game.
That's the good stuff!

Simmons will be a hero no matter how his career turns out. Thanks for sharing, and I'm sure your son learned a valuable lesson as well.
very cool; display them with the ticket stub!
Any photos of him on line from the game wearing them?
For sure a forever memory!

Simmons walked back to the locker in socks?
He may have. I asked my son if he had slides on and he said he wasn't paying attention to Simmons' feet.
That is really cool; my 13 yr old, huge Simmons fan, would have flipped.
I have to much S**t; so if you working on sets or are a player/team collector, send me your want list, with conditions desired. Keep in mind I have a another job so please allow me a few days to respond.
Philly, Philly!
Outstanding, thanks for sharing.

So great!
Awesome story!
I'm pretty sure Kyrie Irving does this after every home game then walks back to the locker room in his socks. I've seen him hand out his kicks at least 5 or 6 times already.
Kudos to Simmons to making the OP's son's day.

Great story!
I pulled this from Getty images as you may want to look into getting the picture from there to go in a display. It would make nice photo match!

Maybe even look for a Simmons autograph signing event around Philly in the near future too.

Gives me goose bumps for your son! Awesome memory.
Wow!
That's a great story Paul.
Congratulations to your son - I like the colors!
Epic!
Awesome story
So cool you got a photo of it too!! ~maybe the best part years later & that he thought to give your son the shoes off his feet is remarkable. Money doesn't go straight to heads of some properly raised kids.... Thanks for sharing...that makes my week and it makes me like the 76'ers and their players.
Wow! What a great memory.
Thanks,

Thanks for all of the responses.
I didn't realize I had these two photos:

That is awesome, so great for your boy . I'll certainly look for Ben Simmons stories now. I haven't followed the NBA for several years.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Probably a mis-click when viewing on the phone. I think I may have done it once.
awesome..congrats

That's a lifetime of memories for son, that's absolutely awesome! Did your son try the shoes on? I know I would have at that age.
Heavens no! At 14, he is already a somewhat savvy collector. He did put his size 10 shoe next to it though. Simmons' shoe made it look like a kindergarteners. I don't recall whether they are size 16 or 17.
I agreed with it to balance you out.

I'm guessing that was one of those accidental Disagrees while scrolling on mobile. I doubt @JBrules was actually disagreeing with your post in this thread.
Looks like your son waved to him and eyeballed him.
That's a very smart, NBA shoe gathering, marketing technique.
