CardBuff.com

Does anyone here know anything about cardbuff.com? It seems that they decided to add my email address to their spam newsletter list. I have never heard of this company and would like to know how they got my email address. They may have got it from one of the card forums I am a member of. I will post this message on all of them. I hate spam email.

I also received an unsolicited email from CardBuff.com. Their listed "featured sellers" include PWCC, Greg Morris, Probstein 123, and 4Sharpcorners, all of which I've bought from, so I assume one of those companies gave them my address.

Just scroll down to the bottom of the email, click "unsubscribe", and hope that does the trick.

I am the man behind the curtain. I bought over 100,000 email contacts of known sports collectors/buyers from a variety of different services. I actually bought three of my own email addresses while doing this. I don't know who is selling them the data although based on the email addresses of mine that were included, it very well could be auction houses or auction house software companies.
My goal with CardBuff.com is to provide a resource for collectors and the best way I knew how to jump start it was to fill it with cool cards and blast it away. I love getting emails from PWCC, Probstein, and Greg Morris and seeing the best of what they have to offer so the idea was sparked by my thought of, "Someone should be doing this for every card seller on eBay."

If anyone was annoyed by the email(s), my apologies for intruding your inbox. The unsubscribe button works and if you never open the email you will go from receiving the daily email to receiving one a week to receiving 0. I hand pick the items for the email and site every single day so I would love some feedback on what's in there for anyone that likes the idea of the site. Displaying cards on eBay was the easiest way I knew to get started. I hope to expand the site to include a lot of other resources for the hobby as well.

If anyone wants to beat me up for spamming them, I'll be at the National in Cleveland. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on what would be fun or beneficial for my site, I'd love to hear them.

Well, you're off to a bad start with the spam. You should cease and desist with the "one a week" spam. Nobody likes a spammer.

Since you came on here to advertise your website with your post, which is fine in my view, that's what you should have done instead of the spam in the first place. Do that on the other sports card websites, I doubt if anybody would mind that, unless it's against the rules in any particular forum.

Also - clicking the "unsubscribe button" is usually a sure way to receive more spam, because then spammers know they've got a "live" attentive email there, so they hit ya with more and more spam, as ya get placed on more and more spam lists.

That being said, what's done is done, but don't compound the mistake with more spam.

BTW - at this point in time on the internet, don't think that you can quit your day job on the revenue from google clicks. If you eventually do a couple hundred dollars a month in affiliate revenue, you'd be doing well.

    Good luck.

Am I understanding this right... You're emailing random 'handpicked' (theoretically interesting) auctions to make people aware of items they likely have no interest (or little money) for?

Looking to have some custom cuts or plain custom cards built? PM me.

One more thing - By spamming you take a grave risk of your server disconnecting you, and cancelling your service. You may think, no big deal I'll just use another server, but you would be placed on a blackballed list, and you'd have a problem getting service from any legitimate server out there.

Sending out that second round of spam would be a bigger mistake, and could doom your website.

In any event, it's up to you. Good luck.

Also, if you send another round of emails the sky is going to catch on fire and all the clouds are going to turn into poop. Now, for me, that's not a problem because I've been training my lungs over the course of many years to function on fire poop air but I suspect many others haven't and shall perish. Are you really comfortable with that on your conscience?

Okay, disagree with my initial comments is fine, which BTW are facts. But what about the guy's server banning him, and him possibly losing his website. That doesn't bother you?

I was trying to help the guy, but you couldn't see that could you? Next time pay attention.

Spammers always have a way of "justifying" their spam. Probably the spamming dopes with the watches for sale, think they are doing something good, helping people to walk around knowing the correct time - LOL

That being said, I'd still like to see the guy do well, being a fellow card collector...and the website, though i haven't checked it out yet, does seem like a good idea.

Just found it funny that you have no idea the motives behind the poster. You're writing all this stuff like you're doing him a favor offering this free advice when you're so far off-base to begin with. It's not your fault but it doesn't make it less funny. Just relax and click unsubscribe. The deep state spammers aren't going to add you to extra lists, you're just going to get unsubscribed.

Wow - the point continues to fly over your head. How would anyone know if this guy was legit or not from a spam header? I get spam all the time with all sorts of topics. The spammers figure sooner or later they will send a spam, could be baseball cards or anything, that will get someone to open up the spam email, and if the person is foolish enough to click a link, including an "unsubscribe" link, then boom, malware or any other sort of new virus in now on their computer.

The horror is losing your website URL after putting countless hours of hard work into it...and also identity theft if malware is placed on your computer.

I also receive the emails. I have clicked on a few of the auctions. I actually don't mind the emails as I don't actively search eBay for everything I might want. Same with Probstein. Every now and then I see something that I might not otherwise have been looking for.

I gotta be one of the few who don't give a damn about spam email or how much I receive. 20 + years of internet, literally never gave a damn how much or little was in the inbox. Seemed like something to complain about when there isn't anything of consequence to complain about. :D

Now that I know who is behind it I am happy to take part in anything Evan is doing as he is one of the good guys in the hobby not to mention a pretty good athlete ;) --the haters can all line up to beat him up at the mistake by the lake this summer--that will be a bigger mistake at the mistake by the lake--good luck trying to kick the buff card collector's butt aka #69 in your program ;)

Well, the OP will soon find out. Sure it seems like a great idea, put up a website, send out 100,000 spams, and then watch those affiliate commission dollars roll in. It ain't quite that easy.

In any event, go ahead and help the guy out, click on the picture links and buy the cards. Perhaps sometime in the future the OP can post a pic of his new car, bought from money made off the website - I hope he does. :)

Stevek obviously knows nothing about spam, but the real question is did you even receive the email? If so, I guarantee you unknowingly opted into it... next time read the terms and conditions better on every site you join or place an order with.

I drove to Vegas yesterday from Scottsdale to cash my Super Bowl bet tickets and buy a large card collection and returned home last night. The entire trip was in my Tesla so there was no gas expense. If I am lucky enough to be able to reach a couple hundred per month via CardBuff, I would be elated to have some money to buy some protein so that I can bulk in case DM23HOF tries to body-slam me.
