I can’t even, he seemed like one of the good ones. For a stretch he was figuratively unhittable.

What a tragic day for Baseball and his Family. I hate to see anyone die young, but to lose such an outstanding person and even a better person. After he threw his perfect game with the Phillies, he bought everyone a perfect game watch personally inscribed with their name and the game stats. What a classy guy!
One of the best big game pitchers around.
    Very sad day indeed.

    Later, Paul.

Very sad indeed. I'm reading that the designer of the plane died flying the same type of plane earlier this year. The plane has been described as a jet ski with wings. It sounds really small. Kind of morbid, but I was watching his autograph sales on baseball cards listed on EBAY and everything under $100 was sold off yesterday. New sales were popping up like crazy in the $250 area. Kind of sad too that some people hearing about it are more interested in making a buck off of it than anything else.

  • There's video of him flying immediately prior to the crash; incredibly erratic maneuvers he was doing/attempting to do.

Is this something you actually saw or just heard about??? I couldn't find any such video on the net so if it's the former ie something you saw please post a link to it so I and others can see it too :)

I watched the video on the Yahoo home page and from the eyewitness video the outcome wasn't shocking. You hate to see someone go so early but if you play with fire sometimes you get burnt.

He seemed like a real class act. RIP.

It's the American way/human nature. Capitalize on a tragedy. Just look at Elvis,Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, others etc. Marketing going on for decades after their passing.

Did anyone hear the commentary that some DJ in Boston said about Halladay?? It was totally inappropriate!! Not sure if it was a sports station??

Since he is in Boston he may get away with his sub-human comments. I for one hope he gets what's coming to him as in termination.

Many years ago I worked with the economist Alfred Kahn as a witness in a case. Kahn had at one time been Chairman of the FAA. In discussions he told me that based on his experience at the FAA he would advise never flying in a plane that did not have 2 engines and two qualified pilots. I also remember several years back the singer John Denver bought a similar type plane and was on one of his initial solo flights in it when he crashed just off the coast of California. I guess I am lucky my passion was baseball cards and not small planes. This was the Denver model

I guess I am not quite sure of what I am seeing in the instagram video. I hear a guy saying, "WTF" multiple times. Was he flying upside down or doing a bunch of loops or something?

Perhaps the guy filming did not know that the plane was designed to land on the water. Halladay may have been practicing touch downs. You don't have to actually touch down each time. Perhaps he was being reckless, but it did not appear obvious in the video I saw. In either case, he definitely did not deserve to die.

    Very sad.

Speaking of the Phillies and sad, yesterday on Howard Stern, there was a segment called, Memet Spends the Day with Lenny Dykstra. While it was funny, it was also sad.

As far as HOF, I think Halladay gets in but I never thought of him as a first ballot guy.

Well, he works in Boston, however he’s from Milwaukee. So your stereotype stinks. Nice second ID.
